Year in Review

This past year has been one marked by personal growth and self-awareness. While I still have absolutely no idea what my post-undergraduate life will hold (Masters in Eduction? Medical school? Who knows!), I have discovered my core values and what I want out of a career beyond a livable paycheck. By exposing myself to new experiences and facing novel challenges, I have grown not only as a student, but also as a global citizen gaining experience in each of the G.O.A.L.S. areas. Throughout my first two years at Ohio State, I have loved the diversity of this campus and learning about other cultures. In my first year, I took an upper-division Spanish course and plan to minor in a foreign language in the future to increase my global awareness. Another aspect of coursework that I have enjoyed is advanced creative writing workshops. Participating in poetry workshops for the past two semesters has helped me expand my original inquiry. Further, I hope to find a medical research position to explore the more scientific side of this goal. This dual interest contributes to my academic enrichment as I pursue a major in English and pre-medicine professional track. Integrating both the humanities and STEM fields into my education, as well as engagement in the honors program, contributes to a richer educational experience that can open many opportunities for the future. Outside of the classroom, I have participated in numerous organizations that have built up my leadership skills. First, I am one of three executive leaders of the undergraduate literature magazine, Mosaic, as the club’s treasurer. I am also the head coach of a girl’s athletic team at a local middle school. Lastly, earlier this semester, I became a founding member of the Beta Nu chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma; I was recently elected to serve as one of the members of our first executive board and hold the position of Risk Management Chair. Each of these unique experiences contribute to my leadership development within the community as well as my service engagement. All three positions involve volunteer work to benefit others. Through these experiences, I have learned that my absolute core value is helping others, and that is what I hope to achieve in my future career.
