Year in Review
The year has felt as though it lasted both years and merely days at the same time. Ohio State has been a wonderful place for me to grow my social, leadership, academic, and personal life skills.
As I may have mentioned in my “About Me” post, I came from a very competitive high school called Solon High School. Although I did very well in high school, I was incredibly nervous to begin my college experience. However, I’m very proud to say that I made Dean’s List first semester and will likely continue that trend this spring semester. I certainly learned that one has to figure out how to make effective use of free time to be successful.
This past spring break, I attended an Engineering Service Learning Trip to Honduras. This trip was, without a doubt, the best decision I have made thus far in college. I learned so much about myself, Honduran culture, and electrical engineering. This experience was so incredible because I was able to get hands on experience with power systems and electricity distribution and practice true engineering every step of the way. Additionally, I was fortunate enough to learn about the Honduran culture and experience it first hand. The entire experience was very humbling and informative and I HIGHLY recommend this class or any other engineering service learning trip.
Lastly, I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by like minded individuals that have helped me form the amazing club GrOSU! As president, I’m so thankful for everyone that has helped this club become a reality, no matter how small the help, I appreciate every little bit. GrOSU is intended as a platform for students to learn, practice, and educate others about sustainable gardening with an ultimate goal of fighting food insecurity in the Columbus area. We have three main branches, or committees, including Campus Engagement, Community Outreach, and Education Outreach.

Global Awareness: Students cultivate and develop their appreciation for diversity and each individual’s unique differences. For example, consider course work, study abroad, involvement in cultural organizations or activities, etc .
To work towards this goal, I’m going to Honduras with a Humanitarian Engineering class next semester. The trip focuses on providing help for an orphanage called Montana de Luz. Before the trip, the class professor is in contact with Montana de Luz so that we can design projects to properly fit their needs at this moment in time.
Original Inquiry: Honors & Scholars students understand the research process by engaging in experiences ranging from in-class scholarly endeavors to creative inquiry projects to independent experiences with top researchers across campus and in the global community. For example, consider research, creative productions or performances, advanced course work, etc.

Career
During my time in Honduras, I worked as a part of the Wind Turbine and Electricity Distribution Upgrade Team. Before the trip, my team had to extensive research into AC power systems, DC power systems, 3 phase systems, inverters, charge controllers, and circuit breaker logic. I believe that having experience in all of these areas will prove invaluable to me in the future. Our team successfully installed a slip ring, a new black box for the wind turbine including, 2 new 12V deep cycle batteries, a charge controller, an inverter, a photocell and a manual brake. The wind turbine now power a new load of high efficiency LED light bulbs that are powered for approximately 12 hours. According to our calculations, the implemented system will save Montana de Luz (the orphanage that we worked at) approximately $480 a year in electricity costs. Additionally, we evaluated the electricity distribution system and have made suggestions for the system. In order to make these suggestions, we took hourly current readings from the main breaker room over the course of a day, as well as mapped out the entire known breaker system. These diagrams and data have been given to the staff at the orphanage and we are working to implement our recommendations.

Water Purification in Developing Countries
This is the link to my presentation for my Green Engineering Scholars Seminar. We researched green solutions to water purification in developing countries, as it is a huge problem. We explored several options such as building wells, water collection systems, bio-sand filters, and grow and utilize Moringa Oleifera. Moringa is a shockingly useful plant that has extremely high nutritional value and can aid in the purification of turbid water. One of the most incredible properties of Moringa is that it thrives in harsh growing conditions, often found in developing areas of the world. Moringa has also been proven to be very helpful in Honduras when it was grown by Dr. Chris Ratcliff to benefit the surrounding community.

Welcome to my personal About Me page! This page contains some info about my current interests as well as some highlights from my high school career.
I’m from a suburb called Solon, just 30 minutes outside of Cleveland Ohio. There are over 70 students attending The Ohio State University from my graduating class from Solon. In High School, I participated in a competition showchoir winning se
ven Grand Championship titles throughout my four years. In addition, I also was extremely involved in our award winning drama club! Contrary to my experience in the spotlight with showchoir, the backstage was my home in this club. I worked my way up Co-Stage Manager, where I was in charge of ensuring every technical aspect was executed in a safe and professional manner.
This year, I’m interested in pursuing a few extra curricular organizations, such as Engineers Without Borders, as well as service opportunities for my Green Engineering Scholars group.
