Year in Review

Looking back on the last year, I have evolved a lot since I started my sophomore year. When I started the year, I was looking to get involved in something outside of Fisher. I also wanted to hold an important position in an organization. To do this, I helped move in fellow Morrill Scholars as a host for the Morrill Scholars Early Move-In Program. As far as those student life goals go, I was successful after I found the Keith B. Key Social Entrepreneurship Program. I was able to become a Student Ambassador and received a certificate from the office of student life for being a cog in the creation of a new and exciting club. The club helped me diversify my interest as well as begin to think about a future in social entrepreneurship. I also joined the Buckeye Undergraduate Consulting Club during first semester so that I was able to learn more about a potential field that I would like to work in.

In addition to those student life goals, I was also able to secure an internship for the summer. I will be interning with General Motors in the Global Purchasing and Supply Chain sector. This aligns perfectly with my major, as I am now an Operations Management major. Going forward this should provide me with an opportunity to dive deeper into what I would actually be responsible for should I continue with my major. I will be located in Detroit, which will give me a new experience in a new city with new people. I think this will help grow me personally as well as professionally. I was also very fortunate to have been able to be accepted to the Management Leadership for Tomorrow program. This program’s goal is to provide minorities with the resources and tools to have successful careers in business. They also strive to give each one of their members the skills necessary to be leaders in business. I was very blessed to be able to have achieved my professional goals this passed year; I believe they have played a big role in my continued evolution at Ohio State. Moving forward I will continue to set goals that will help me evolve as a person and as a professional.

My backpack best describes my first semester at Ohio State. With a busy schedule first semester I found it very convenient to always have everything I needed with me in my backpack. I took my backpack everywhere, even if I didn’t necessarily need it, just in case an event came up that it might need something from it. While trying to find my way first semester, it was helpful knowing I was always fully prepared.

About Me

My name is Harrison Wethers. I am from a small town in Illinois, just outside of St. Louis. I came to Ohio State to leave the area and explore something new. The desire to explore new avenues has contributed to my interest in pursuing a degree in International Business.

On campus I am involved in several things. I am a part of the Business Scholars program. I am also a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity. Both of those things have helped me make Ohio State a home away from home. Aside from those programs I am also involved in the National Association of Black Accountants as well as a group that strives to Alleviate Poverty through Entrepreneurship.

After graduating from The Ohio State University I plan to continue my education with a focus in a career in corporate law. At some point I would love to move to a coastal area and continue my work as a corporate lawyer.
