The course provides an overview of today’s fragmented market for financial securities and how today’s financial markets work; how governments and exchanges regulate them; and how traders create liquidity, volatility, informative prices, trading profits, and transaction costs.  The course relies on a blend of lectures to provide institutional background and to explain concepts; case discussions to illustrate conflicts on interest in financial markets; and interactive trading simulations to provide opportunities for experiential learning.  Trading simulations cover price discovery; market making; information-based trading; institutional sales trading; fragemented markets with dark pools; and algorithmic trading.
