Year in Review

  • Global Awareness- In order to develop global awareness so far, I have taken Spanish 1102 and 1103. Particularly, we had the opportunity to engage in several Talk Abroad conversations throughout the course. It was incredibly interesting to talk to people from other countries and learn about their culture. I have also learned about my own Jewish culture by taking Sinai Scholars classes at the Jewish community center on campus. I plan to continue increasing my global awareness by taking more classes relating to culture in the future, as well as more Sinai Scholars classes.
  • Original Inquiry- I have taken research methods, in addition to several science classes with labs that have given me a very good idea of the research process. I have also written several research papers in classes. I plan to continue understanding the research process by taking the Social Psychology research course, in addition to researching more information about my classes.
  • Academic Enrichment- I chose to major in psychology because the subject is truly interesting to me. I am really passionate about getting to better understand science because it is so applicable and useful in everyday life. I chose to major in Biology because it is another subject that is really interesting to me and really applicable to classes I will need when applying to Physician Assistant school. I’ve chosen the GE courses I’ve taken because they are other subjects I am interested in that do not directly correlate to my major and minor. It’s so important to have a wide range of knowledge and understanding in many subjects, not just one’s major and minor and I’ve worked hard to ensure that the GE courses I am taking allow me to build my knowledge in many different subject areas.
  • Leadership Development- I have joined many different extracurricular activities this year including Universal Health Aid Columbus, Love Your Melon, and Guiding Eyes for the Blind. I chose to take leadership roles in my sorority and at the Jewish community center on campus. I was chosen for a leadership role for next year in Universal Health Aid Columbus. Many of the clubs I am involved in place some emphasis on health care or people suffering from health issues, which connects to my career goals because I want to go into healthcare. Obtaining leadership roles in my clubs has helped shape my leadership skills.
  • Service Engagement- I am involved with Universal Health Aid Columbus, which puts on a health care screening twice a year. I am Chief of Membership Engagement and Professional Development for next year, so I will be responsible for planning volunteer events for the club next year. I am also involved in Love Your Melon which does volunteering and outreach around the Ohio State Campus, as well as Guiding Eyes for the Blind, which helps train dogs to become service dogs. I plan to continue being involved in these clubs throughout the rest of my time at Ohio State.

College Transition Lecture Reflection

College has been something that I’ve looked forward to my entire life. Ever since I was young, it has always seemed so far away. It almost felt like the day would never come, but now I’m here and happier than ever. However, with this excitement comes some huge changes I’m going to need to learn to adjust to. Personally, I’m most worried about learning to manage my time in college. I’ve been so used to having such a structured schedule in high school, where I had class most of the day, then sports and extracurriculars, and after, I would go home and do homework. Now, because I have so much free time, I’m worried I won’t know how to best utilize it and balance my social life with school work.

However, I’m so excited about the social aspect of college. I love meeting new people and in the short time I’ve been here, I’ve already met so many. I’m so excited to continue meeting new people and getting out of my comfort zone. I can’t wait to get involved in clubs, so I can keep meeting people. I’m interested in getting involved with my dorm’s activity council because I was involved in student council in high school and that taught me a lot of leadership skills, so I’d like to continue that. I also would like to get involved in clubs that help the community because volunteering is important to me. I’m also considering getting involved in intramural sports or club field hockey.

I love to learn, so I’m also excited to continue my education. Some academic strengths I’m bringing in from high school are; I took many honors, advanced, and AP classes throughout high school so I’m used to a challenging schedule. From these classes, I’ve had experience learning a lot of material on my own and having to study. I also went to a high school with 1,000 people in my graduating class, so I’m more used to the big school and classroom environment.

Listening to the College Transition lecture got me even more excited for the next four years. The piece of advice that most resonated with me the most was that I shouldn’t be afraid to ask for help. In the past, I’ve been stubborn and had not wanted to ask for help, even when I really needed it. When I finally did go get help, my understanding of the class greatly improved, in addition to my grade. If I am struggling in a class, I want to take advantage of office hours to go get help.

I’m so excited for my own transition to college and can not wait to see what the next four years will bring.
