Online Communication

As a college student, most of us had the experience of taking online classes or doing homework online. One of the most important components of online classes is the discussion board. I want to share some tips that can help succeed in the online discussion.

Every time before starting writing something in the discussion board, we should first look at the requirement of the assignment carefully. It is a good way to organize our mind and have a basic idea what we are going to write. We can also look at those earlier posts in order to find out basic information for the post. Also, before you participating in the discussion, you should be really focused on the subject. Turning off television, stopping texting can all let us stay focused.

When you are writing your post to the discussion board, write it in well-structured paragraphs. Although the discussion board usually does not seek for long sentences, we still need pay attention to the sentences’ structure and grammar. Remember, the post is part of our grade so do take it seriously. After writing post, we can comment on classmates’ posts and share your thoughts with others. Being an active participant in the discussion board will let the others remember you in a short time. You cannot post or comment something private and also avoid meaningless posts.

After you participating in the discussion, review your post and determine if you missed any checkpoints. Follow up and email other students to share the topic you have discussed. Summary your performance and write down things you need to improve in the future.
