Some tips to help your colleagues beat the blues in the winter include:

  • Engage in regular physical activity
  • Break your routine if rutted
  • Eat healthy: light and often; avoid “junk food”
  • Manage your energy: build in recovery breaks throughout the day; sit less; stand more
  • Get enough sleep (at least 7 hours)
  • Think positive because how you think affects how you feel and how you behave
  • Balance work and personal life: take time to enjoy things you like to do
  • Read 5 to 10 minutes every morning in a positive book
  • Have your Vitamin D level checked
  • Socialize regularly with family/friends
  • Have an attitude of gratitude: write down the things for which you are grateful
  • Laugh more often

Effectively trained healthcare professionals can use guided imagery to help patients relieve stress, sleep better, feel more comfortable, and change habits.

The course, led by Partice Rancour, MS, RN, PMHCNS-BC, behavioral and mental health specialist, is offered in two sessions on Tuesdays April 14th and May 5th from 8:00-11:00am at the OSU Integrative Medicine Clinic. More information on this training is available here.
