My First Semester at OSU

My first semester at OSU I met a lot of people and made some really good new friends. I’ve done things I’ve never thought I’d do – like jaywalk or cut someone’s hair at 10 pm in a study room on a whim. Classes for the most part have actually been pretty nice, although I’ve realized that early morning classes are not a good idea for me. Sometimes, especially earlier in the semester, I really missed my family, but luckily I live close enough that I go home most weekends. Next semester I’ll probably try to stay on campus for more weekends, but we’ll see how that goes. College has been stressful sometimes, but as a whole I think it has been less distressing than I was worried it would be, which is really nice. Overall it’s been a good experience.

Humans of OSU

I’m from Indiana, I lived in a small town. Really small, compared to Columbus. I enjoyed my childhood and going to school, I was the kid who loved school. I was born with hearing loss and I have hearing aids in each ear; I got my first pair when I was 3 months old and I’ve been wearing hearing aids every day for the past 18 years. I did speech therapy for a few years just to make sure my speech was developing okay.

In middle school I took a lot of fun classes and I was in band, I liked music but I don’t do any kind of band stuff now. I played soccer all growing up so it was always a balance making sure I’m doing good athletically but also making sure I’m taking care of stuff I need to take care of for school. My dad wanted me to do soccer at school and get scholarships but I wanted to only focus on academics for the first time. Now I’m at OSU and I really like being able to focus on classwork and dive into my passions for Linguistics and Spanish.

My First Week at OSU

My first week at OSU was interesting and in some places very difficult. My Linguistics classes were both very fun and something to look forward too, but Chinese caused an extreme amount of stress and I slept through one of my two 8 A.M. History classes. I met quite a few people, which is nice since the social aspect of college is something I was worried about. This last point is probably because my roommate is more social than me and tries to get me to go spend time with people.
