Career

Resume: Benjamin Weidner Resume

I will be interning with Canadian Parliament this summer and I am currently in a class to learn about Canadian Politics. This semester is dedicated towards preparing for the internship. Thus far I have gained great experience about careers.

Pre-Canadian Parliament Internship :

I am learning about the political, social, economic, and cultural climates that permeate society, specifically in Canada. This is great experience for the future career I hope to hold in government in the U.S.. I am learning how societies must be approached and how to understand the problems within them. I hope through working in a foreign environment, I can gain unique and outside perspective on the issues that plague my home country, that way when I begin my career I will have a more diverse perspective to work from.

Past Research:

I have researched the issues surrounding Dayton, Ohio’s manufacturing sector resulting from offshoring. From there I have formed a policy paper outlining possible solutions to the ongoing economic state in Dayton. This research taught me how to better analyze specific local issues and how to formulate specific solutions and improvements to existing efforts. I believe this work will heighten my problem-solving abilities as I enter the workforce.

Current Research:

Currently I am researching the socioeconomic barriers facing Aboriginal Canadians. I hope to uncover the root causes of ongoing Aboriginal struggles, what the country and its people are doing to remedy it, and what the people of Canada could improve on in relation to Aboriginal support. I hope to gain new perspective on Canadian culture vs American culture and become better able to understand each country as a result. At the end of my research, I hope to not only understand Aboriginal struggle in Canada, but to also propose solutions to these issues. This research will teach me how to better understand the root causes of problems in local communities. As I become better at understanding problems I will be better able to tackle and solve them. This should make me more efficient in solving issues as I begin my post-college career.

About Me

Hi I am Benjamin Weidner. I am a current Public Affairs and Political Science double major with a minor in German, and I am working towards adding on a minor in Business. I hope to complete these academic paths while at the same time broadening my experience through internship. My end goal is to have a job where I am creating change for the better in whatever community I find myself in (though I would like to work for my hometown of Dayton,Ohio).

I love the idea of being able to look at problems in a community, and then having a job in which I work to resolve those issues. I hope to become a great leader in my community, as well as to bond with my community.

I identify myself as a person who loves learning, thinking critically, and having in-depth discussions on everything from physics to the social issues that affect us today. My interests are wide spread and I find myself enjoying most everything. I like hiking, being outdoors, being active, yet I also like reading, playing games, music, playing the guitar, and just about anything I can get my hands on.

At the end of my freshman year I went with an IA study abroad program to India which I feel was an experience that shaped me greatly. I learned as much about myself as I did Indian culture. I learned what makes me, me in relation to the rest of the world. I also developed a thorough understanding of the eastern religions, which helped my understand similarities and differences among all religions. I hope to continue having these kind of experiences throughout my college experience.
