Affordable Learning: Strategies and Best Practices

The Affordable Learning Exchange was initiated in order for instructors to take ownership of their courses and content. Student savings are achieved by re-defining the traditional university textbook, encouraging faculty innovation, and proving instructors with opportunities to transform content or create their own. Open educational resources, along with library resources and digital course materials are changing Ohio State courses and making them more accessible for all students. Ashley Miller from ODEE presents best practices for the adoption and integration of open education resources.

Learning Goals for the workshop include:

  1. Examine case studies from past ALX grant winners, demonstrating the innovative integration of OERs and low-cost materials in Ohio State classrooms.
  2. Explore strategies to effectively use CarmenCanvas to integrate alternative course materials into their courses.
  3. Ask past grant winners and ALX team members specific questions about course content.
  4. Learn about grant opportunities through ALX.
