What Does Design Mean to Annie (the works)
Since leaving her quaint southeastern town of Jackson, Ohio, Annie has since moved to the Ohio State University campus with the intent to major in industrial design. She defines good design as “finding a creative solution to a problem with intent to not only heal the wound that the problem inflicted, but also to improve the quality of life for all living things that encounter the solution.” One of her favorite aspects of design is that for each new project, you get to research and become a mini expert on a new and niche thing.
Intentions with Design (the quirks)
Through industrial design, Annie plans on creating products out of sustainable materials that also help towards the push for a more sustainable human footprint. She wants her products to give back to Earth and to consumers. She is passionate about the user experience and wants to create so she can solve issues. Through Ohio State’s program she hopes to become a more analytical thinker, a better researcher, and overall she hopes to strengthen her professional and creative skills.
Background and Experience (the perks)
Growing up in a small rural area has undoubtedly been a major factor in Annie’s fascination for nature. Her background of rolling hills and wide lakes gave her room to develop a strong creative intuition and an urgency to try new things. As she grew up she learned to work for what she wanted and for what was needed. Spending the summer of 2019 as a design intern for a local design and print shop, she was able to strengthen these skills. At her internship, Annie worked alongside experienced team members and learned how beneficial collaborative work can be. In the spring 2020 semester, Annie was accepted as a new member in the professional fraternity Alpha Rho Chi for architecture and the allied arts, where she intends to become more educated in the degrees that surround design and begin professionally networking.
