Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

At The Ohio State University, I have been fortunate enough to gain many new experiences and participate in different kinds of activities.  This year, I joined TEDxOhioStateUniversity and it has been amazing.  Through this organization, I have been able to expand my financial experience.  I am on the Development Committee and my main duties consist of organizing budgets and maintaining a primary account book.  I also serve as an inter-committee liaison, which gives me a greater understanding of the organization.  I hope to use this experience to grow upon as well as form connections with like-minded people.  I believe that this opportunity connects well with academic enrichment because I am a finance major.  I chose finance because I have a genuine interest in the financial markets and my aspiration is to pursue a career in corporate finance.  Presently, I am also pre-med, and I believe the required classes I have taken so far have helped me develop as a student.  They are difficult and demanding, however, they force you to adapt to each situation and focus on the present.  Currently I am trying to make a final decision between finance and medicine, but as of now, I really enjoy the business curriculum.  I was recently accepted into the Dean’s Leadership Academy, which I believe is a wonderful opportunity.  The required classes for this certification will give me the tools necessary to be the best leader I can be.  I am always looking for new ways to improve and grow and I’m very excited for this program.  Due to the cutthroat environment of today’s World, I am always looking out for different ways to separate myself.  The Mount Leadership Society Scholars Program has given me an extraordinary foundation to build upon and I am l eager to continue my advancement in leadership as well as learning.

Career

About Me

My name is Jonathan Watson and I am a second-year at The Ohio State University.  Prior to college, I attended Dublin Coffman High School where I was involved in several service and academic organizations.  Among my many achievements, earning the distinct honor of delivering the valedictorian speech at graduation is one that is very special to me.  At Ohio State, I am a member of the Mount Leadership Society Scholars Program which is an academic and service organization.  I hope to continue giving back to my community and those in need.  I am also in the Fisher College of Business pursuing a degree in business administration with a specialization in finance.  In addition to business, I am on a pre-med track and I am interested in becoming a physician.  Although it may sound strange to balance business and pre-med, I feel that the two go together quite nicely.  I was fortunate enough to shadow Dr. Terrance Philbin at Orthopedic Foot and Ankle where I was able to observe numerous surgeries.  I believe that one day my finance background will be a valuable asset to any hospital or practice.
