G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness: This semester I am taking an environmental history course and I love it  . I am super passionate about the environment and keeping it  clean. Last year during Mount Legacy Week I was a leader on Team Environment and worked to help with conservation. We created two projects to achieve this. The first project was with a local elementary school where we went into classrooms and taught the kids about global warming and how it  can affect the planet. In order to solve a global issue you need to fix it in the next generation. The second project was a river clean-up with FLOW. We spent a day helping clean-up the Olentangy River. These both made such huge impact on the community.
  • Original Inquiry: Through the STEP program I plant use my money to hopefully travel abroad or get an internship. One of my goals is to get an internship at Disney World’s Animal Kingdom. I hope to study the animals and see what it’s like to work with the animals there.
  • Academic Enrichment: I try to further my studies outside of class by being apart of Zoology, Pre-vet, and Pre-med clubs. These help me to stay on track with furthering my studies and learning more about those fields. I hope to complete research and internships in these fields.
  • Leadership Development: Ian an executive board member of a club on campus called NeverWalkAlone. Its focus is to end the stigma on mental health and increase the advocacy across campus. I am super passionate about mental health because I have conditions of mine own. It’s one of my favorite things to be apart of on campus. We have made such a difference already and I can’t wait to continue to do so.
  • Service Engagement: Throughout the past year I’ve been working with the Compeer group of Licking County online and on their Facebook with members. Compeer is a mental health group that helps adults and anyone of Licking County. I have had th pleasure to get partnered with a member and have bonded with her. I can say that we defiantly have both helped each other though times.

Career

Ever since I was younger I was fascinated with animals and how they interact with each other. I always wished my pets could talk because I wanted to communicate with them. I have always wanted to learn more and more about animals, their habitats, and why they act the way they do. My dream is to work and study with animals one day. I want to be veterinarian or a vet technician one day. It would be so cool to work on an animal sanctuary and study the animals. I want to do some type of internship in Africa to see and study big game animals in their natural habitat and safari. I’ve been looking into the internships at Disney World in their Animal Kingdom. That would be a dream of mine. I am indecisiveness person, so I often change my mind on what I want to do in life, which is why I chose to major in zoology. With this major, I can still change my mind and have backup plans to go to medical school, be a marine biologist, or anything else I might change to. I also have a passion and love for food and cooking. I want to find a minor in a type of food science or nutrition. This would be very applicable to whatever job I pursue because in order to stay alive humans and animals alike must eat.

Artifacts

In January of 2019, I went on a medical mission trip to Honduras. The goal of the trip was to bring medical aid and medications to people in need who didn’t have anything. The country of Honduras is a very poor stricken and a corrupt country. The government is corrupt and the country is in poverty. The group was full of volunteers of doctors and the Salvation Army Core in Honduras. We would travel hours to go into the jungles and farm country of Honduras to serve the people and give them medical supplies and care. On this trip we helped many, many people in need. It was a very fulfilling trip and so worth it. The ability to put a smile on the little kids faces by merely smiling and waving at them was so fulfilling. It made me feel so amazing to be able to make them that happy by giving them a bracelet or just smiling at them. Even though during this trip it seems that we all helped the people of Honduras more. In reality, they made a bigger impact on me. They changed my outlook on life. I am now more grateful, humble, and look at things more positively. These people had maybe $5 to their name, yet they were always smiling and so happy to see us. This one girl in specific made the biggest impact on me. She wore her best dress to come see us to impress us and she looked like a little princess. All I did was wave at her and smile and she came over to me and sat with me for hours. This was so meaningful to me because there was a language barrier between us, but we still became the best of friends. She stayed with me for hours with the biggest smile ever on her face.

About Me

Hi I’m Meghan Waters! I’m a first year mount leadership society scholar. My major is biology with thoughts of a pre-med track. I’m thinking of minoring in French as well. I’m not completely sure what I want to do in the future with my biology major, but I know I want to succeed at Ohio State and achieve a career where I can help others. I also want to earn Dean’s list every year. In high school, I played two varsity sports, volleyball and track, and was in the fellowship of Christian athletes. In continuing my love for the game, I am trying out for the club volleyball team. Some of my passions include helping others, which I did through my school’s Lion’s Club, where we provided meals to the less fortunate, and key club, which was another volunteering club. One of my favorite service opportunities was when I had the opportunity to go on a medical mission trip to Honduras.  I was apart of the national honors society and was a national ambassador for my school on behalf of foreign exchange students. Some of my hobbies include watching Netflix (favorite show is Grey’s Anatomy), playing with my dogs, Ellie and Coco, hanging out with my friends, and going on adventures. My goal at Ohio State is to achieve a high GPA, be the best student and friend I can, and live life to the fullest.
