Mapfre Stadium

Columbus Crew vs DC United

On September 30, 2017 myself and some other STEM EE Scholars were able to attend a Columbus Crew game at Mapfre Stadium. This experience was significant because I had never been to a professional soccer game before. The atmosphere was electric. To see and experience the passion of the Crew fans was quite amazing. I will remember the nonstop calls of “Glory to Columbus” that lasted throughout the match. The match ended in a final of 2-0 with the victory going to the Crew. Attending this game allowed me to experience some of the passion and love for soccer that exists here in Columbus. I was also able to meet some new people in STEM EE Scholars that I previously had not been acquainted with.

During this experience, I learned that it’s important to have a passion for something. That passion can be directed in many different ways and areas, just as long as it is true and valid in it’s practice. Growing up, I always loved the game of soccer, and seeing this atmosphere in person was a complete change in my perspective on the sport.

One thing that I can take away from this event is the practice of passion. I hope to exercise the same passion for my studies in the STEM field as was shown at Mapfre Stadium on Friday night.
