G.O.A.L.S.

I have many activities that I am doing or will do that will fit into the Honors & Scholars G.O.A.L.S.. Fitting into the Global Awareness category, I intend to study abroad in Latin America doing mission work and in Europe learning about different cultures that will help me to better understand the backgrounds and thought processes of those around me and whom I may help in my future. As an Original Inquiry, I have been participating in a research study through Children’s Hospital called Growing Up Female. This exposed me to, not only the medical world, but to a side of medicine that is not seen when in a doctor’s office for a well check-up. The study sparked my interest in why people get the diseases and sicknesses. Since I learn better when doing hands on work, I will fulfill the Academic Enrichment aspect of G.O.A.L.S. through working as an STNA, PCA, and through my nursing clinicals. I will gain invaluable experience about how to interact with different people, while also learning integral medical procedures. I have already begun to immerse myself in Leadership Development through the First Year Leadership Collaborative I attended in August 2017. I learned more than I could have ever imagined about leadership, leading, and myself in those four days. It was an excellent way to start off my four years at Ohio State and I look forward to more amazing experiences to enhance my leadership skills. Throughout my entire life, I have always enjoyed doing acts of service, so when I heard the Scholars program does service as a community, I knew it was the program for me. I have participated in all types of service from building a deck for a person’s house in Appalachia Kentucky to volunteering at a camp for children with disabilities. Service has been an amazing experience and has caused me to become who I am, thus I fully intend on continuing it throughout my years at Ohio State and beyond.
