Dates: Junior Camp – June 27th-30th (campers arrive the 28th; staff arrive late afternoon of the 27th)
Senior camp: — July 13th-19th (campers arrive the 14th, staff arrive the later afternoon of the 13th)
TEENS: must be at least 14 years old as of January 1st, 2019 to counsel at Junior Shooting Education Camp. This is a great opportunity for youth in your county who are counselors and just want more time at camp. NO shooting sports experience required! This is also a great opportunity for those youth who are involved in shooting sports to give back to younger members. We have had several of our teens serve in this role and it gets kids who may never think about being a county camp counselor an opportunity to take on a leadership role in a project area they are invested in.
ALUMNI: Senior Education Camp needs counselors who are 18+ this is a great opportunity for those last year counselors and a way to draw in young alumni into volunteer roles. Any 4-H alumni will need to go through the process to become an approved screened volunteer in your county, and you will be asked for a reference/recommendation as part of the selection process. In the event that we do not have enough counselors who are 18+ we will evaluate options.
TRAINING: Those youth who are shooting sports teens but not county counselors will need to work with their respective county 4-H professionals to complete the training in the county. The past three years we have offered training at the spring instructor workshop, but have not had enough interest. I appreciate your help and support in working with these teens to provide them the necessary training.
All applicants will need to fill out the online application and complete a phone or zoom interview with Christy Clary.
4-H Shooting Sports Program starts its winter session at 1:00 pm, Sunday, March 17 at Hervida 4-H Camp. Youth ages 9-19 are welcome to join in the fun while learning the basic skills of a shooting sports discipline. Choose from archery, pistol, rifle, shotgun, and/or living history. Check out the flyer about the upcoming 4-H Shooting Sports session! For youth ages 9 – 19! The flyer contains meeting dates, times and discipline descriptions. The cost of the program is $5.00 for dues and eye protection. (For health reasons, each participant will be assigned safety glasses.) The $5 is collected at the time enrollment forms are turned in which will be available at the first meeting and are also at http://washington.osu.edu/program-areas/4-h-youth-development/washington-county-shooting-sports
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: More adult volunteers are needed! Let one of the current volunteer instructors know you’re interested in helping so we can discuss how you’d like to assist. If you’ll be attending with your child, why not have something to do while you wait! We’re in need of archery, muzzleloader, living history, rifle, and pistol instructors and a coordinator for roster management. Assistance with any of the other disciplines would be welcomed too. Your consideration would be greatly appreciated!
If you have any questions, please call Erica Baker at 740-818-8184 or myself at 740-525-4980 or 740-473-1373. We look forward to seeing you soon.
