Bean Ride Charities to Support Hervida 4-H Camp

Bean Ride Charities has selected Hervida 4-H Camp as the beneficiary of their 2023 fundraising efforts. The BIG event will be held September 15-17 and the proceeds will help build a new girls cabin to replace Cabin #8.

To get supplies and items for the September event, a Cornhole Tournament will be held on June 3. Registration begins at 2:30 and the cost is $15 per person. STEM Camp at Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp

Youth in grades 5-7 are invited to join us at Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp June 19th-21st for STEM Camp 2023!

4-H STEM Camp is an overnight camping opportunity for youth interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. We are excited to be able to offer STEM Camp at a reduced rate thanks to a 4-H Foundation Grant, lowering the cost of camp for youth in Appalachian Ohio.

Washington County 4-H is excited to announce the return of a traditional summer camping experience.  We are planning to host camps for youth Kindergarten thru ninth grade. OSU Extension will be offering four camps this year, including one single day camp, one camp that is one overnight, and two multi-day overnight camps. All four of the camps will be held at Camp Hervida near Waterford. Please see below for the dates and camp specific information.

  • Junior Camp at Hervida: grades 3-5, June 26-30
  • Cloverbud Camp at Hervida: ages 5-8, July 5
  • Beginner Camp at Hervida: 2nd grade- 10 years old, July 6-7
  • Senior Camp at Hervida: Grades 5-9, July 17-21

Registration costs will cover lodging, meals, daily canteen, evening snack, class and program supplies for the campers. The camp staff and camp counselors are looking forward to a fun and exciting 4-H camping season! Camp t-shirts will be available at additional cost.

AED Device Now at Camp Hervida

The Peoples Bank Foundation, Inc. provided funds through their community grant program to purchase an AED device for Hervida 4-H Camp. The unit is housed in the Nurse’s Cabin. Thank you Peoples Bank Foundation for making this possible!!

Hervida Chicken BBQ – Volunteers Needed – May 6

Please come support the Chicken BBQ Dinner at Hervida on Saturday, May 6. Meal served 5:00 to 7:00pm. Dinners will be available for eat-in or carry-out.

This is also a great opportunity to volunteer for camp by serving, clearing tables, or donating a dessert! Donations for the Country Store are always welcome!!

Three weeklong camps are being planned for 2023, and four mini camps.  The Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation is excited to be offering its signature ag literacy and workforce development program, ExploreAg, again in 2023.

Counselors Needed for Ohio Military Kids Camps

I would like to invite you to participate in a unique opportunity to be part of a statewide camp counselor team this summer! Ohio Military Kids (OMK) has launched applications for 2023 Camp Kelleys Island! If this is an opportunity you’d like to pursue, please read on and complete the online application links below!

CAMP DATES for 2023:

  • Teen Camp (campers ages 12-15) – July 30-August 3 with mandatory staff training on July 28-30
  • Youth Camp (campers ages 9-11) – August 6-10 with mandatory staff training on August 4-6
  • Optional In-Person Counselor Training: Thursday, June 22, 2023 in Columbus, OH

Keep in mind opportunities for involvement with your local county fairs and the Ohio State Fair this summer. It is possible to be involved as an OMK Camp Counselor and participate in your 4-H activities, but be mindful of your potential involvement in project judging days.

Camp activities include: swimming, archery, crafts, games, snorkeling, kayaking, tie dying, visits from military special guests, large group activities, campfire songs, skits, dances, and so much more! Housing for all staff and campers is traditional cabins with bunks.

Your club can provide a community service to our county-owned 4-H camp facility by being workers, donating an item to the silent auction and/or providing desserts at the Building Fund Drawing & Silent Auction on Saturday, November 12. This year’s proceeds will go toward operating expenses & kitchen improvements.

Workers are needed to clear tables and clean up the kitchen from 6:00 p.m. until finished. Another work crew is needed to tear down tables and chairs at the end of the fund raiser from 9 p.m. until finished. 4-H club members, parents and advisors who are signed up to work receive a free meal and do not need to purchase a $40 ticket.

An item for the silent auction can be made or solicited from a business by your club. Various kinds of gift baskets, gift certificates, novelties, tools, decorations, etc. are appropriate. Items can be dropped off at the Extension Office before Saturday or at the K of C Hall on Saturday by 4 p.m.

A total of 30 desserts are needed to help keep the meal costs down. Your club could provide one or more pies or cakes. Desserts can be dropped off at the Extension Office before Saturday or at the K of C Hall on Saturday by 4 p.m.
