Barlow Tag-in – July 15

Required Tag‐in for Market Dairy Goats and Feeder Calves will be Saturday, July 15 at the Barlow Fairgrounds
8 am to 10 am.

Market Dairy Goats (does & wethers) must have a Scrapie tag in place by tag-in on July 15.

ALL FEEDER CALVES MUST BE TIED and will be TAGGED ON THE TRAILER. NO CHUTE WILL BE SET UP.

Jr Fair Royalty Applications Due – July 10

Waterford Community, Washington County, and Barlow Independent Fairs are seeking youth to apply for: Jr Princess, Prince, Queen, King, Dairy Princess, Horse Princess

  • Applications must be RECEIVED at the Extension Office by July 10, 2023
  • Interviews, Public Speaking, and Crowning: Monday, August 14, 2023 at The Galley, Marietta (Time TBA)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A member of a Junior Fair youth organization in Washington County.
  • Candidates must be a Junior Fair Exhibitor at a Washington County Fair.
  • Queen 16  – 19 as of January 1, King candidates: 16-19 years of age as of January 1, 2023. Princess, Prince, Dairy Princess, and Horse Princess candidates: 12-15 years of age as of January 1, 2023.
  • Contestants may not be married, nor have been married, nor borne or fathered a child, or be with child.
  • Has not previously served as Junior Fair King or Junior Fair Queen of Washington County.
  • Prince, Junior Princess and Dairy Princess, Horse Princess may not run consecutive years for the same title.

Entry fee is $30.00.   Make checks payable to “Washington County 4-H Committee/Royalty”

All schools, youth organizations and civic organizations are invited to encourage candidates to enter the contest. Eligible Junior Fair organizations include 4-H, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, FCCLA, and FFA.

Cloverbud Share Fair – Time to Register

The Washington County 4-H Cloverbud Share Fair will be held on Thursday, July 13 from 6 – 8 pm at the Jr Fair Building on the Washington County Fairgrounds.

This is an optional opportunity for Cloverbuds to participate in. Cloverbuds can bring items they made at a Cloverbud club meeting or Cloverbud camp to talk about. Cloverbuds can also bring their “My 4-H Cloverbud Year” book to share during the interview. Cloverbuds will be interviewed by local 4-H teens!

RVSP is required to participate on July 13th.

4-H Speaking Contest – July 11

County 4-H Public Speaking Contest – July 11 –  9:00 am at OSU Extension Office

  • Public Speaking Incentives for 4-H Members! The 4-H Advisory Committee will award a $8 voucher to each member participating. One award per member. Each participant will be entered in a drawing for a cash award sponsored by Bob and Peg Byers.

“New” Chick Pick Up Date

The Chick pick up date for all chicks ordered for the market chicken project this year has been changed.  Chicks will arrive on June 29th or 30th.  This is due to the holiday during our regular pick up schedule.  The pick up time will remain from 3:00-4:30pm at Heritage Country Store.  Please watch for additional announcements that week and be prepared for either day. Please also call our office at 740-376-7431 to check on the status Thursday before traveling to be sure the birds have arrived. 

Washington DC Immersion Project

Washington DC Immersion Project – September 21-24, 2023

The Urban Immersion Project is a 4-H initiative that combines cross-cultural learning, teamwork, and service-learning in the urban environment of Washington, DC.

Teens ages 15-18 are eligible for this 4-day service-learning experience that will build skills and abilities to prepare youth for success in a diverse workplace as well as build a cultural understanding of those who are different. This experience will not be about shopping or sightseeing, although we will visit some monuments and historic sites. The cost of the experience is $180. Limited scholarship funds are also available. The 4-H Educator will contact all teen applicants to complete an additional phone interview before selection.

Monroe County Multi-specie Clinic – June 17

A multi-species animal clinic we held in Monroe County on June 17th. This is a nice event that offers hands-on practice and grooming demonstrations as well as many great door prize giveaways. They welcome participation from other counties, so please share the flier with your members or on your social media accounts.
