Helpers Needed with 4-H Open House – March 8

Older youth and adults are needed to help with the Washington County 4-H Open House on Thursday, March 8. The event will be held from 6:00 – 7:30 at the Jr Fair Building on the Washington County Fairgrounds. All volunteers are asked to arrive by 5:30. Please click here to find the helper form – due February 15th. The 4-H Open House is a fun-filled evening of games, prizes, robotics, small animals, 4-H membership information and camp fundraising opportunities. Each station will provide interactive and hands-on activities to engage the children and adults as they visit the open house. Register for camp at the Open House and receive a $10 discount. The event is open to all youth!

 

2018 Jr Fair Activities Guide Now Posted!

Find the latest and greatest 2018 Jr Fair information in the guide! Livestock and Non-Livestock rules for each of our three fairs can be found in the guide. Detailed rules for market livestock projects are listed in the table near the end of the guide as well as pen reservation forms for County and Barlow fairs.

Printed copies of the guide are available at the OSU Extension Office, from your club advisor and at Livestock Quality Assurance Training.

Bull’s Eye 4-H Club Partners with H&R Block

Bull’s-Eye 4-H Club will earn $20 for every new client the Club refers to H&R Block or Block Advisors. Potential clients need to take the referral code of 40010001091668 for Bull’s-Eye 4-H to their tax appointment at H&R Block. Proceeds from this referral program will be used to purchase ammunition, arrows, targets, recognition items, decorations, and miscellaneous items that are not funded by grants and other donations. Your consideration is appreciated. Where trade names are used, no discrimination is intended and no endorsement is implied.

Last year the club was given $580 by H&R Block! Thank you for your efforts in 2018!

Become a CWF (Citizenship Washington Focus) Program Assistant

National 4 H Council programs are exciting learning experiences for youth and adults from all over the United States and the world. Program Assistants make these programs successful by using their skills and knowledge to help the participants have the most educational and fun experience possible in Washington D.C. and at the National 4 H Conference Center.

Program Assistants for the Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) and Leadership Washington Focus (LWF) programs must be able to successfully fulfill the requirements of the D.C. Tour Guide License.

Applications are due Monday, January 15, 2018.

2018 Ohio State Fair Market Beef DNA Samples Due

If you are planning to exhibit market beef projects at the 2018 Ohio State Fair, you will be required to have individual DNA samples taken from each animal that may potentially be entered. The calves must also have an EID tag. These DNA samples must be in the possession of the Ohio State Fair by January 15th, 2018.

Camp Counselor Applications & New Incentives

It is time to start thinking about the 2018 4-H Camping Program! Teens can be a part of the camping program by being selected to be a 4-H camp counselor. Working as a camp counselor is a tremendous responsibility and privilege, but the rewards are great. Teens are selected to be care providers for young campers based on their fulfillment of a selection process that is similar to real-life job selection procedures. Teens must be at least 14 by the start of camp.

Applications are now available and must be returned by February 9 to the OSU Extension Office. Counselors can also participate in a new incentive program and earn up to $50 off camp registration fees! Find all the details here:

New 4-H Cloverbud Resource

Ohio 4-H Cloverbud Connections has been a resource for 4-H volunteers and Extension staff since the 1990’s. The newsletter started as a print version and later transitioned to a blended online and printable resource. The quarterly resource has grown to include a variety of Click it, Print it, Do it activities that are easily accessible and readily available for volunteers. The editors are pleased to announce a new format that will allow readers to subscribe to the site and receive an email notification when new posts are added. The site is searchable by key words and topic to help readers find content. New posts will be added monthly rather than quarterly in the previous format. The new format will continue to provide a unique blend of education, activities, and fun to build and challenge 4-H Cloverbud Volunteers teaching kindergarten through second grade youth. Ohio 4-H Shooting Sports Seeking Camp Counselors

Cold weather makes us dream of warm weather…which of course means CAMP! Ohio 4-H Shooting Sports Camps are seeking camp counselors. The application is on the website here: https://ohio4h.org/families/members/events-opportunties/shooting-sports/4-h-shooting-ed-camp and due to Christy Clary by March 15th.  Shooting Sports experience is not required!

Junior Shooting Sports Camp is June 28-July 1st (campers arrive on the 29th) at Canter’s Cave. Youth must be at least 14 years old as of January 1, 2018. Youth must complete all required training. If a youth is not a counselor in your county but interested, we do have a training opportunity April 20-22nd at the adult instructor workshop. We have also had some youth who were not available for county camps complete training in the county at the discretion of the 4-H professional (great option for those who live further away!). If youth are a counselor in your county, they do need to fill out an application but will not be required to attend any additional training.

Senior Shooting Sports Camp is July 7th-13th (campers arrive on the 8th) at Canter’s Cave. Counselors must be at least 18 as of January 1, 2018 and not attending SS camp as a camper. This is a great way to keep young alumni who have recently aged out involved! For alumni, a great system has been to have them go through volunteer screening in the county. You recruit a young volunteer and we get some great camp counselors! Training is available April 20-22nd for these individuals also.

Horse Bowl 2018

Interested in joining the Horse Bowl Team in Washington County?  The first meeting will be on January 9th, 2018 at 6:30pm in the Coon Hunters Building at Barlow Fairgrounds.  There are 2 ages divisions, Junior Teams will have members ages 8-13 as of January 1 and Senior Teams will include members ages 14-18.  If you are unable to attend or have questions contact the extension office at 740-376-7431.
