After taking this test, I was very shocked at how accurate my code was when it came to describing me. My code was “RES”; I was identified as being “Realistic”, “Enterprising”, and “Social”. The first term I got was “Realistic” which means that someone is inclined to work with their hands rather than be stuck behind a desk. They enjoy putting themselves out into the world and would even be deemed “do it themselves” people. Also called “Doers”, these people are very solitary and down-to-earth. Some of the careers associated with “Realistic” included becoming an astronomer, a paleontologist, or a park naturalist. The second term I was associated with was “Enterprising”. If someone is enterprising this means that they may be called “Persuaders”. These people are very adventurous and assertive. They do not fear taking risks on things and are often willing to do things such as public speaking or leading a group. Some of the careers that were associated with the “Enterprising” term included being a chef, a manager for a business, or a lawyer. The final term I was given was “Social”. People identified as being social are often called the “helpers”. These include people that are very kind and generous to other. They often are really good at working in groups and are very into relationship building and other various exercises that bring them closer to others. Some of the jobs that were suggested for people that are social included being firefighters, nurses, or human resource personnel for companies. I feel that I am very well defined by these three characteristics and that they are a big part of who I am.
Right now I am still somewhat looking for a career. I have recently decided that I am going to be declaring business as my major, but I am not sure what specialization I would like to pursue. Before I even came to Ohio State University, I was set on trying to find a career in which I would be able to be outside and be able to work with my hands. I thought about trying to become a marine biologist or a zoologist because of my love for nature and wild animals. I soon realized that I am awful when it comes to complicated calculus and advanced chemistry and biology. It’s okay though because I also have a love for business and for coming up with new ideas and inventions that can benefit others. This is where I really feel that my Holland code holds true for me. I really hope that I can start a business that can benefit the environment. I also wouldn’t mind starting an organization that finds a way to give incentives to companies in order to get them to use “green” technology, say to power their machinery. I feel that Earth is in critical danger with the amount of ozone depleting at the rate it is. This has proven to show drastic effects in several different parts of the world and I would love to start a business to help counter greenhouse-gas emissions. I feel that this would be a great way of expressing all three of my characteristics that I got from the Holland code quiz.
Although I have an idea of what I would like to do for a career, I would still definitely be open to pursuing some other career that was recommended from my Holland code. Some of the other careers that were suggested to me specifically included becoming a fitness or aerobics trainer, a chef, or a dentist. I would definitely not mind becoming a physical trainer because I really love to work out and to exercise. I think that people should take exercising seriously and should find ways to get active because it has been proven to lead to happier and healthier lifestyles. I would also not mind being a chef at all. When I was a little kid I would always be helping my grandma in the kitchen making Italian food. I have had a passion for cooking ever since. I think that being a chef at my own restaurant would be an awesome career. I also thing that being a dentist would be really cool. Being able to use your career to go around the world and provide services for people that don’t usually get those services would be a surreal opportunity and would make so many people happy.
