Artifact

This is an image of the very first garment I ever constructed. I designed and sewed the top and skirt for a fashion class, and the pieces were displayed in a nonprofit runway show. As a fashion major, this moment is when I knew that I wanted to pursue a degree in fashion and that I wanted to build a career in the industry. Because this garment was the first I had ever created from start to finish, including design, fabric selection, and construction, I was overwhelmed by the project. However, I learned so much from the hands-on experience. I improved my sewing and draping skills, and I proved to myself that I can think quickly and adapt my plans when faced with obstacles. In the end, my garment won first place in the collection, and I knew that I was on the right track towards my dream career.

G.O.A.L.S.

As a Mount Leadership Society Scholar, I try to emulate Ohio State’s Honors and Scholars G.O.A.L.S. throughout my personal, professional, and academic pursuits. At this point, the goal that I find most relevant to my life is Academic Enrichment. I am a Fashion and Retail Studies major, and I have pursued opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom that help me achieve academic excellence. This year, I am taking Branding and Business courses that have provided me with essential knowledge for receiving a job in the fashion industry. These courses and others have helped me understand concepts that I can use at my job as a Brand Representative for a major fashion retailer. Recently, I have had several interviews for internships in merchandising and product development, and my studies thus far have aptly prepared me for these interviews. An internship in one of these areas will help me achieve my goal of Academic Enrichment by giving me the opportunity to apply my knowledge in a hands-on environment.

Artifact #1

I took this picture at my very first football game in the ‘Shoe as a Buckeye. On this day, September 16th, I got to watch Ohio State defeat Army 38-7 beside several of my friends that I’ve made since arriving here. For me, this image represents one of the first times I felt truly like a Buckeye. After watching all of the games on my television at home, it felt surreal to finally watch the game unfold in person. I had an amazing time cheering on my school with my new friends and several thousand other fans. This was the first of many exciting wins I will have the opportunity to experience during my time at Ohio State, and I cannot wait to experience more!

About Me

My name is Meghan Ward, and I am a first year undergraduate student in the College of Education and Human Ecology. Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, I moved to Columbus in 2017 to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Fashion and Retail Studies. When I’m not in class, I enjoy reading, sewing, and baking. As a member of the Mount Leadership Society Scholar’s program, I dedicate myself to improving my leadership skills by actively serving my community. In the future, I plan on using these leadership skills and my degree to pursue a career in apparel production or merchandising. My desire for more sustainable and ethical production methods in the fashion industry inspires me to continue my studies and achieve my career goals.
