Columbus Adventure

My peer leader group decided to got to Chop Shop for our Columbus Adventure. Chop Shop is a somewhat cheap burger and milkshake place that is not too far from campus. I had never been to it before that night. I thought that Chop Shop was an awesome place to go get a quick bite to eat and hang out with friends. It reminded me of a restaurant near where I live in Akron called Smoke. From this experience I learned that there are good, affordable places to eat at that are not a long way from campus. I would recommend Chop Shop to my friends and I would gladly go with them if they choose to go.

Columbus To-Do List Overall

The Columbus To-Do List was a great way to get out and explore all of what Columbus has to offer. My favorite experience from this semester project was visiting places in German Villiage. I love the brick roads that are there and all of the cute houses. It reminds me so much of Charleston, South Carolina, which my family visits almost every year. The Book Loft seemed like a great place to spend time over the weekend reading. I also happened to visit Schmidt’s Sausage Haus when my family was in town for Parents Weekend and ate their delicious chocolate cream puff. The restaurant even had live music that made for an energetic atmosphere. By completing the to-do list I was able to familiarize myself with the different areas of Columbus and how to use the bus system. I previously had no idea that Columbus had so many original shops and restaurants because every time I visited Columbus I was near Easton. I want to explore more of the places on the list when I have a weekend to spare. I hope to visit the Columbus Art Museum and some of the coffee shops in the future. If I were to give any advice to someone interested in completing the to-do list also, it would be to look for spots that are interesting and that seem like places they would want to visit often.

Columbus To-Do List #3

The Book Loft in German Villiage is one of my new favorite places. It is just a huge building with thirty-two different rooms full of books. Reading is one of my favorite hobbies, so I was basically overwhelmed with this store. The store has a beautiful brick walkway that is lined with a variety of flowers, which reminded me of Charleston, South Carolina. Inside the store, it is very easy to get lost because of how many rooms there were, but it was fun to wonder. I would want to go back to The Book Loft in the future to just hang out and read some books. All of German Villiage is beautiful, but The Book Loft is more appealing because of all the books!

Columbus To-Do List #2

Visiting COSI was a fun activity to do on the weekend. It had many hands-on exhibits that allowed for people to learn about the science behind different things like sound waves and electricity. COSI reminded me of The Great Lakes Science Center, which I have visited many times since I grew up close to Cleveland. However, COSI seemed to have more interactive exhibits and was more organized in having specific rooms for certain science concepts. It was easy to get to COSI because it was near the park where the Independent’s Day Festival was that I talked about in my first Columbus To-Do List post. I was familiar with which bus I had to take and the stop I needed to get off at. I would recommend COSI to anyone who wants something fun to do with friends.

Columbus To-Do List

For this semester I decided to cross the various lists of things-to-do in Columbus to experience a little bit of everything. I am hoping that by experiencing these different activities around Columbus I will become more familiar with the area and find things that I can do with my friends. I have looked at the variety of events and activities and I am looking forward to going to the Columbus Museum of Art and the Holiday Lighting Ceremony at Easton. Most recently I went to the Independents’ Day festival with a group of friends. The festival highlights local musicians and businesses in the area of Columbus. The music that was played was not exactly what I like to listen to, but by traveling to the festival I was able to learn how to use the COTA bus system. So, overall it was a good learning experience.

Artifacts

Soccer– Soccer has been apart of my life for almost seven years. I played with the same twelve girls and coach all those years and they basically became a second family. We overcame many difficulties ranging from championships to losing a teammate. However, I was able to be active and obtain many memories and friends that I will never forget. The sport allowed me to gain the skills of working in a group and being a leader, which would never have happened if I had not started playing. I was able to grow into a more outgoing person and find a sport that I loved to play. I hope that soccer will provide me an outlet to grow in college as it did in high school and I will continue to use the skills I learned to build myself more.

College– The picture above was taken on one of my first few days at The Ohio State University. The iconic spelling of Ohio by the band was like a marker of a new chapter of my life at the university. The picture symbolizes many firsts in my life like the first time being away from home and the first time in college. Looking at the photo reminds me how far I have come from the beginning of the semester. I have adjusted to the new atmosphere and I am working hard to achieve my academic goals. The coursework may be difficult and I may struggle, but this photo reminds me that I will have many great experiences at The Ohio State University.

About Me

Hey, my name is Anna Wandel and I moved to The Ohio State University from a small town in Akron, Ohio. I have been playing soccer for about seven years and I hope to continue with the sport through an intermural team on my floor. In my free time, I enjoy reading fiction novels such as those written by S. J. Maas. I am currently enrolled in the Aerospace Engineering program at OSU and I am involved with the Humanitarian Engineering Scholars program. During my college career, my academic goals are to be successful in my major, study abroad, and be involved in a co-op or research opportunity.  I hope that the Humanitarian Engineering Scholars program will allow me to apply what I learn in the classroom and assist me in helping people in and outside my community. After college, I wish to pursue a career in aviation and hopefully travel around the world. However, I am also looking forward to expanding my knowledge and sharing ideas together in global communities in order to create more innovative solutions. In doing so, I will impact the world by being a part of a growing movement that aims to solve major world issues.

My Top Five Strengths

Achiever: There are days in which I need to lay around, but most days I need to accomplish some task in order to have the feeling of achievement. This task can range anywhere from cleaning my room to finishing all my homework, as long as I get something done.

Harmony: I tend to avoid arguments in any way possible and feel that they are pointless when you are trying to accomplish anything. Being productive is all about compromise.

Analytical: Having facts to back up any statement is necessary when someone claims something is true.  I focus on the numbers and feel that any valid argument will have data to support it.

Consistency: Having a functioning environment is important and one of the main ways to do this is my having a clear set of rules that everyone follows. I feel that almost everything needs to be an equal playing field so that no one has an unfair advantage.

Maximizer: I believe that it is better to master the strengths that I already have. Its not about quantity but quality.
