My First Semester at OSU

My first semester at OSU was amazing. I have met amazing people and I love what I am studying. I started in a pretty difficult class, Intro to Criminal Justice, but I grew to love it and have learned so much from the professor. I also was in a few classes that I really did not like, but most of my classes I have really enjoyed. I have been going to office hours for my professors and made great relationships with them. I also have been very positive throughout the semester when dealing with problems. I have also met amazing friends in humanities and in my classes. My friends in humanities are so nice and I have never met such a great group of people. I love having friends in my classes as well because we share the same interests.  I cannot wait for next semester to see myself grow as a person and continue my studies.

Humanities this Week

I saw humanities this week when I went on fall retreat through Cru. Cru is a Christian organization at Ohio State, and every fall they host a fall retreat at Rock Lake Christian Camp in Lakeville, Ohio. I saw the humanities during my retreat because I met a lot of new people from Ohio State and Columbus State. Through meeting all these new people I got to explore with them and ask how their faith is and how it is different than mine. Everyone has different backgrounds and ideas so on my retreat I loved talking to others about their journey through faith and being able to share my experiences too. Over my retreat,I also enjoyed how open and honest I could be with everyone there. I was in a completely open community that I was able to learn and grow from. Since my weekend away I have seen humanities everyday. I think about all that I learned and how I can apply it to my life here at Ohio State. Everyone has a different life and background and I love to be able to live and grow through everyone’s differences.

Humans of OSU

Margo Hughes
I am a third generation buckeye, so ever since childhood I have lived and breathed OSU. My grandpa and both of my parents have attended OSU so I was very convinced to come to OSU from the start. OSU was the choice for me because, as a criminal justice major, I thought having a connection to Columbus would get me the best internships, and later a great career. Also, growing up in a small town (Chagrin Falls), I wanted to come to a big school and get away from the small town feel and meet new people. Lastly, out of all the schools I applied to I knew OSU was going to give me the best education and I have never looked back.

My First Week at OSU

My first week at THE Ohio State University has been a roller coaster. As soon as I stepped on campus, I have been doing activities nonstop. I enjoy being busy but I am also an introvert at heart and I value my alone time greatly, which is why I have had some rough times in my first week here. Coming into Ohio State I truly did not know what to expect. My sister graduated from Ohio State in 2018 and I knew she had a lot of hard times in college and I have heard from others that they had struggled with classes too. My number one fear coming to Ohio State was that I was going to fail, but after talking with friends and family about my fear, I realized that it is not an uncommon fear and that I am smart and confident and I will not fail. In my classes I am going to utilize all of the resources at my disposal to make sure that I am getting the best grades I can. I know at times I will not get the grade I want or I will be overwhelmed with my course load, but I am trying my hardest and that is all that matters. Although things have been rocky, I have also had very fun times. I really enjoyed welcome week, especially the involvement fair because I loved seeing so many people come together. I really enjoyed the involvement fair because I did not realize how many different ways I can be involved on campus. My expectations for my OSU experience is to be social but also know where my limits are and knowing when I cannot go out because I have homework or a test I have to study for. My expectations for my experience in Humanities Scholars is to learn more and grow with others. I think that everyone in Humanities Scholars is very nice and it is so great to have so many kind, loving people around because college is stressful, and the friends you make help you to push forward and not give up. I know that my time at OSU is going to be hard but I have amazing connections and I know that it may take some bad days but it is not a bad life.
