Year in Review
Overall, my first semester at OSU was a very successful one. I not only have performed well academically, but I have also gotten involved on campus and grown socially. In the classroom, I have adapted well to the collegiate style of learning and had great success on exams in all of my courses. I have found spots that I enjoy studying and I never have a problem getting overwhelmed by an increased workload. As far as getting involved on campus, I have joined and been an active member in Operation Smile Club on campus. This organization raises money for cleft lip and cleft pallet surgeries for children in third world countries and I have enjoyed volunteering for the club. I have also taken steps towards gaining membership in Nu Rho Psi, a neuroscience honorary on campus. This honorary is available to second year students who attended the events that the honorary sponsors, and I have attended several of these events. Lastly, I have grown socially. I have formed good relationships with my roommates, other students on my floor, and classmates. I feel that overall, my first year in college has had a successful start.

Artifacts
1. This first artifact is a glass prism with a DNA strand laser-etched into it. It was given to me at the conclusion of high school by the head of my school’s Biotechnology Program as a gift for completing the 2 year program. This Biotechnology Program was a very important part of my high school career, introducing me to a variety of biological concepts and techniques through laboratory based learning. It also introduced me to the research process through my completion of a capstone project during my senior year in which I worked on an original research project. This program solidified my interest in the sciences and helped me to identify what I wanted to study in college. This artifact is a reminder of my achievements in this program.
About Me
Hello I’m Connor Wagner and I am a third year student majoring in Neuroscience on the pre-med track. Around campus I am on the executive board in Operation Smile Club, where I help to raise money for children around the world born with cleft lips and cleft palates. I also conduct Alzheimer’s disease research with Dr. Jeff Kuret in the college of medicine and I have been awarded the Undergraduate Research Office’s Summer Research Fellowship for my efforts in this area of study. Because of my research, I have joined Buckeye’s against Alzheimer’s, a group of students who both advocate for Alzheimer’s disease research and volunteer time with diseased patients. Lastly, I volunteer at Mount Carmel Hospital through a program set up by the Neuroscience Department. In my future I plan to attend medical school where my current interests include neurosurgery, orthopedics, and cardiology.
