Artifacts

The item that I am using as my artifact is my senior project experience that I completed last May. Senior project is a month long program that my high school developed for members of the senior class to get out and experience the real world through either volunteering or working with companies or people to obtain real world skills and possibly do some career exploration. For my senior project I volunteered with one of the teachers at our elementary school and helped her with anything that she needed and almost acted as a sort of assistant or student teacher. I decided to chose this particular experience as my artifact because I loved my senior project and learned a lot about myself during that month where I spent every day in a classroom full of 9 and 10 year olds. I learned that I have a lot more patience that I initially believed because sometimes it takes quite a good deal of effort to remain calm and collected when there are a bunch of 4th graders running around and they don’t want to listen to you. I decided to volunteer at my local elementary school for my project because education is something that is very important to me and close to my heart and I figured if I could go and help even one child understand something that they didn’t before then I had done my job. Through my experience of senior project I gained several skills which I think will be helpful for me in the future. I gained the ability to be able to reword and explain the same information in various ways to different people that learn and receive information differently as well as learning how to balance my time between activities in a more efficient manner which will also be helpful both in college and when I get out into the work world. When I had finished my senior project all the members of the class wrote thoughtful letters to me about how much of a difference I had made to them and that was when it really hit me that I had helped them, and that was my only goal. I truly believe that my experience of senior project will help me greatly later in life.
