My first involvement at Ohio State is joining the Accounting Association. This student ran organization has weekly meetings with different companies. These companies talk about what it would look like to have an accounting job or internship with them. Also, these companies explain the requirements needed to apply for a job or internship with them, and they give some helpful information when applying for internships or jobs.

This organization is very helpful for me as it allows me to see what the general day to day life would look like as an accountant. These companies also allow members to ask any questions they have at the end of their presentations. Therefore, I can get any questions I may have regarding applying for internships or just accounting in general answered.

Even though this organization is done through Zoom this semester, I still get valuable information and help, and I do not feel that running the meetings through Zoom hinders the effectiveness of this organization in any way. Joining this organization marks my first step in involvement on campus and continues my journey of personal and professional development. I will continue to find new organizations to join and new ways to get involved to continue my progress in learning.

Hello! My name is Jack Viola! I am originally from Dublin, Ohio and graduated from Dublin Jerome high school in May of 2020 with Valedictorian status. Through this E-portfolio I hope to show and understand my development as a student and human being.

Currently, I am a first year pursuing a major in accounting in the Fisher College of Business and am currently working towards my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. I am a Business Scholar through the Fisher College of Business and within the University Honors and Scholars Center. Business Scholars have allowed me to connect to others who are also interested in the insights of business. Business Scholars has also connected me to resources to enhance my professional development and my high standard of ethics.

As for my extracurriculars, I am currently a member of the Accounting Association. This student run organization allows me to explore my interests in accounting through listening and learning to what the day to day life of accounts would look like at different firms. This also allows me to connect to these firms and to start my career and intern search. Additionally, I am a part of the Common Cents Investment Group. This club teaches me the important things to know in the world of investing as well as giving me insight into good and risky investments at the moment.

Over the summer when I am not in school I volunteer at Miracle League. At Miracle League, I assist mentally and physically challenged children in the game of baseball. I also am a part time field duty coordinator for Miracle League where I help in setting up the field for each game, make sure things are running smoothly during games, and help take things down after the games. This allows me to give back to the community that has given so much to me.

I plan to continue my involvements in order to create new experiences for myself. I hope that these experiences will allow me to find a better understanding of myself and the world around me. Therefore, I will be better equip for when I graduate.
