Class Takeaway and Summary

With the past school year being moved online, I decided to enroll in a course, ESLTECH 2011: Keys to Online Success, to help me stay motivated and how to study better online. Here are three takeaways I have from this course.

  1. Procrastination: This class truly helped me cure my procrastination. I have always been the type of person to do assignments last minute and almost all of the time, I end being very stressed about my schoolwork. Doing my assignments last minute also means I am not putting in my best work. This class helped me realized that no one is born as a procrastinator, you just need to manage your time more effectively. I learned a variety of tools and resources to help me do my schoolwork online.
  2. Studying Effectively: In this class, I also learned some tools to help me stay motivated and study throughout the week. Over the past few weeks, I have been using Trello and the Study Scheduler App. The Study Scheduler App helps create study times throughout my day/week and it reminds me when I need to study. This is a great tool because I am always on my phone, and with the app’s constant reminders, I know when it is time to put away my phone. Trello also has been very useful because it helps me visualize things I need to do and things I have already completed by organizing to-do lists. By using these two resources together, I am able to stay motivated and procrastinate less.
  3. SMART Goals: After learning about SMART goals, I haven’t stopped using them. By creating SMART goals, I am able to stay motivated in my courses and get things done more efficiently based on the model. This model is an acronym that stands for:
    1. Specific
    2. Measurable
    3. Achievable
    4. Relevant
    5. Time-Bound

By using each step of the model, I am able to create realistic and achievable goals in a timely manner. This helps me stay motivated because I know my goals are realistic and I am able to check if I am keeping up with my goal by measuring my progress.
