The Boots on the Ground event was a tremendous success!

Once again our volunteers have made quite the impact in our local Veteran community!

Please join us in thanking our fantastic volunteers for all their hard work this past Saturday! It was a great time of camaraderie and heart! We could NOT have done it without our amazing Veterans ERG group and family members.

Our special thanks goes to Alicia Parrish; Ashlee Bobrick; Ashley Fang; Charles Bickley; Danette Birkhimer; Greg Wilson; Jeff Tabares; Jody Knisley; Kathy Stillman; Keith Harp; Kennedy Herberghs; Mary Bickley; Matthew Black; Michael Sullivan; Robb Stillman; Teresa Sullivan; and Tyler Weber.

Thank you as well to Ashley Tainer-Harp for being the courageous OSU leader.

Together they packed 422 boxes of food which is 8000 meals and 480 personal hygiene kits. What a tremendous difference you have made in the lives of local Veterans and their family.

We would also like to thank WSYX ABC 6 News for providing news coverage for the event. They were on-site with a live broadcast, which can be viewed on their YouTube channel story: Veterans Care Network distributes 8,000 meals.

They also provided a wonderful news article: Volunteers pack boxes to benefit veterans

Pictures always to a better job of telling such stories so please enjoy this picture story recapping the day as well:

Thank you to the Veterans Care Network for inviting us to participate in this event. We look forward to future events together and supporting their mission.

For twenty years, the Veterans Care Network (fka the Military Veterans Resource Center) is expanding its impact in helping veterans regain the self-reliance, independence, and self-confidence they felt as a service member. A new social media expansion will be forthcoming to stay tuned!

They recognize that the transition from military service to civilian life often is difficult. Their goal is to help veterans identify and overcome the barriers that are holding them back from the life they want.

In partnership with Besa, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) created an employee volunteer program to help advance the mission of improving the overall health and well-being of the communities it serves. The Besa portal allows employees to view current projects, sign up with colleagues, request engagement and team-building projects for teams, and give back. Together, we can improve lives and amplify a culture of community engagement. All OSUWMC employees are welcome to sign up and participate in the Besa programs. If you have any questions, please reach out to Aaron Brown, the Besa Volunteer Experience Coordinator. To learn more about Besa, sign up for an account or log into your account.

This will be a fun time of packing meal boxes, sorting and organizing donations, and various other tasks to help in the warehouse and pantry.  There will be tons of smiles and wonderful people. Wear your OSU gear, closed toes shoes, and comfortable clothes so you can move and shake and make new friends.  Some lifting of up to 25 pounds might be needed.

There will be more events coming and we would love to have you involved. If you would like to be involved in the 2024 initiatives, please contact Ashley Tainer-Harp.

Welcome in to 2024

As we start a new year, we are often filled with thoughts of new ideas, plans, dreams and goals. We also spend some time reflecting on the past year and what could have, should have, shouldn’t have and how to move on.

We here at the OSU Veterans Employee Resource Group (VERG) want to take a moment to say Happy New Year! What you do MATTERS! Thank you for your service, sacrifices and our Freedom!

We would like to ask that no matter what this year holds that you look forward to each day and keep going. We understand that Veterans’ challenges extend beyond active duty.
