Well this is it, everyone. Final Post! Module 7 was all about building and sustaining the motivation that we have built to this point. It will be very important to keep all of the lessons and motivation that modules 1-6 have given us, which is why the 7th one could be the most important.

One of the main things about module 7 that I found to be important would be how to find your motivation, and how and why we should eliminate distractions for the motivation to aid in better attention and results. The first aspect, the finding motivation is important because that is what drives you to succeed in everything you do. Without motivation, people’s work would be dull and boring. Motivation is what gives us our passion to succeed. Secondly, finding ways to eliminate distractions of that motivation is the best thing we can do to ensure success after we find our motivation. Eliminating distractions helps us to keep up with timelines, do better work, and feel better about our work and ourselves because we will not be stressed about timelines, due dates, etc.

I hope the blog posts I have done will help you future students to understand what it takes to succeed on an online platform and beyond. College can be stressful, but with the guidelines I have laid out, the success is within reach for anyone. Take your time and use it wisely and you will do well. Always give it your all and find the motivation you need to succeed in whatever it is that you do.

Module 6 is all about research and how to perfect research. The module addresses the importance of each category of a research site. The credibility, utility, and quality are all addressed in the module. Module 6 also tells students how to search for resources, and how not to!

Research is all about having credible sources that can back up your topic and or answer the question you are trying to ask in the research. There are research topics about anything and everything you would like to know about. However, the trick is picking credible and valuable sources that can be of help to the student. For example, if a research question is asked and a student is searching for sources, the student will want to look for sources that have accreditation by a major research company or at least something that has been heard of before. The company should always be researched itself before the data is used. The student should also ensure the data is recent and accurate with other studies before it is used. Finally, the student should be wary of the research that is being discussed for their topic. They should ensure that is it credible and the article writer is also credible. Researching a topic is something that takes practice, but when done right, is an easy and fun way to learn about something new.

Don’t you love when you are reading something and then an hour later you can recite it? That is thanks to your brain being able to retain information that it is given. That isn’t always an easy thing to do, either. Module 4 was all about reading to remember and how using tactics that aid in remembrance to your advantage. One of the most important aspects that I saw in the module was the specific tactics that were given on how to aid in remembrance. This was important to me because I myself take some of these steps to help my memory. For example, one thing I feel like I do really well is to review the content multiple times to really drive the message home. This is depicted in the module as sensory memory, working memory, and long term memory. The way the described the process of memorizing facts and figures really was review to me because I felt like I follow a similar pattern. One module practice that I could possibly improve upon would be the highlighting, making note cards, and going above and beyond. I tend to rely on technology and my memorization skills more than doing flash cards or highlighting, so I may try that in the future to see if it will give me a bigger advantage. Some advice for you kids, would be to always try and memorize what you read. The readings are just words on a page, but if you can put the readings into practice and actually apply them, it will make it more enjoyable and profitable.

I would say that some of the most useful things that I learned in module 3 about procrastination would be the vast majority of ways that it could be avoided. For instance, one of the best ideas that I saw to do was to track time. I have never really been one to track my usage and time management, however this seemed like a good plan. The time racking allows you to see where you are losing out on the 24 hours we have everyday to get things done. This can help be more efficient, which makes getting tasks done much simpler.

On the other hand, the one thing that I saw in the powerpoint that I do take advantage of is the idea of breaking down large tasks into smaller ones. The powerpoint gives a great idea on this topic and tells the reader that if a large tasks is broken down, it becomes much easier to handle and makes it easier to get the large tasks done in the end. I believe I do this well now with all of my work. Having 5 classes going at one time makes for a lot of assignments due at the same time, which can be overwhelming. However, if you break down the tasks to do only a few a day, you will be amazed at what can be done. It really does aid the student in finding time to get it all done when it is in small portions. Break it down!

Module 2 was all about communication. Communication is an aspect of life that one cannot live without, and frankly who would want to? Communicating shares ideas with others and allows them to give input back to you! However, there are some “rules” about communication that one should try to stick to, especially when that communication is through the form of text. The obvious fact about communicating over text is, of course, that they cannot see your face or hear your tone of voice. This means that they cannot hear if you are using a sarcastic tone or a sense of urgency in your statement. More importantly, text may cause someone to take offense or form an opinion about what you said, even if you didn’t mean it that way. So be careful when using text to communicate.

One of the most important topics in this module was Netiquette. Netiquette is the code of conduct for the use of the internet, and how someone should act when on the internet. There are a few common rules when using the internet that someone should be aware of before coming to college. For example, when a student is in an online class and has to a research project, the student should not be copying someone else’s work from the internet and using it as their own. Not only is that infringing on the copyright of that person, but it is also plagiarism and could get you a one way ticket out of college.

I feel like I have a good grasp on the Netiquette aspect of college. I always site my work when doing research projects,  never belittle fellow classmates in group discussions, and always watch what I put on the internet because it is public after all. So, bottom line is always watch your P’s and Q’s on the internet, and be sure to always use your best Netiquette skills to ensure you are being the best and most responsible student you can be.
