About Me

Biography

Hey y’all! I’m Rohini Vembar and I am in my senior year studying Environmental Science with a minor in Development Studies through International Studies! I have been lucky enough to study abroad twice during my time at OSU: I participated in the FAES FYE my freshman year in Nicaragua and spent the Maymester after my sophomore year studying environmental, economic, and cultural sustainability in New Zealand. While my time in Nicaragua taught me how to think more globally, I was really able to put those skills into effect in New Zealand, where I looked into how societies impact each other. I am hoping to use the skills I have gained and the experiences I have had to while I receive my Master’s in restoration and invasion ecology following graduation.

Why I decided to pursue Global Option

While it is relatively easy to live in the moment and absorb everything while traveling and being abroad, it is fairly difficult to take everything you have learned once you get back home and communicate what you have learned about yourself and the world to others. The Global Option allows you to communicate with others who are in the same boat as you and understand more about how you and your ideas have changed.

My Goal for Global Options

I hope to learn more about how my beliefs have changed from before I studied abroad to now. I realize that college itself creates change in students but I feel as though the impact would not have been as great if I had not gone abroad.
