Pesticide Container Recycling Collection

Do you have unwanted, unused, or unknown FARM chemicals?
The pesticide collection and disposal services are FREE OF CHARGE, but only farm chemicals will be accepted. Paint, antifreeze, solvents, and household or non-farm pesticides will not be accepted.

What can be recycled? Agriculture pesticide containers –jugs, drums (up to 55 gallons), and mini bulks (if cut into strips) will be accepted. FREE OF CHARGE

REQUIREMENTS

• All containers must be triple rinsed
• Remove caps from jugs and lids from drums
• Remove loose leaf labels
• MUST BE DRY!
• Mini bulks must be cut into 2×2 foot sections with no lid, no valve, and no screws

STRICTLY ENFORCED! If containers are not clean, dry, and in small sizes (mini bulks), they will not be accepted.

SIGNS WILL BE POSTED TO DIRECT YOU TO THE CORRECT AREA OF RECYCLING

RURAL RECYCLING GRINDING LLC will be the recycling company.

Cold / Freezing Snap Projected

Our regional partners are elevating awareness concerning an increasing risk of cold temperatures next weekend on the back side of the storm system coming through this week. Our forecast models are handling this a bit differently, but this is worth watching.

Temperatures may fall decently below freezing across Ohio late in the week after several days of above normal temperatures Sunday-Thursday.  No specific temperature forecasts for now, but I just wanted to raise awareness for those with ag/horticulture interests.

If you have transplants that cannot withstand these projected cold temperatures, you may consider keeping them protected until the cold spell passes.

The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) hosts the 2024 Urban Food Systems Symposium in Columbus, Ohio on June 11-13. The event includes keynotes, a grower panel, 40 presentations, a reception with approximately 40 posters, a choice of six off-site educational tours, and dinner at The Waterman Agricultural and Natural Resources Laboratory, a unique 261-acre university facility for teaching, research, and community engagement. Feral Swine Information

Feral swine (Sus scrofa) are a combination of Eurasian wild boar and escaped/released domestic pigs.

In the US, feral swine likely cause an estimated $1.5 billion in damages and control costs each year. The estimated 6 million feral swine carry several viruses, bacteria, and parasites that pose a threat to livestock, humans, pets, and wildlife.

Due to their close genetic similarity, feral swine can easily transmit deadly diseases to domestic pigs, such as African swine fever (ASF), a foreign disease (FAD). ASF is not present in the U.S. territory, but it would have catastrophic consequences for the swine industry if it were ever diagnosed domestically. Pseudorabies (PRV), on the other hand, is a domestic disease that has existed in the US for 150 years but is currently present only within the feral swine population.
