Artifacts

Here is a picture I took of my record player still in the box when I received it on Christmas. I consider my record player and vinyl “collection” to be important item in my life. I received my record player and my 1st 4 vinyl 33s and 2 45s for Christmas my freshman year of high school when I was 14 in 2013. I love anything “old fashion” or “vintage” and am especially into classic rock music so this has been one of my favorite and most memorable gifts. My record player looks like a little red brief case plastered with classic rock band and Disney stickers. My record player and vinyl collection is so important to me because mom and I always go on adventure to find my records. On some of our adventures we’ve even gotten lost going out of town trying to find certain vinyls and getting lost leads us to even more adventures. It’s always so fun. Also there’s something about just physically you hung the vinyl and dropping the needle onto the record and having it soon, hearing the fuzziness of the vinyl before it plays. I also enjoy seeing how happy and the nostalgia my mom receives when we listen to records she would have had when she was my age. my record player is so important to me that I have brought it up to OSU with me and it has actually helped me grow as a person and bond with my new room mate as well. I have taken many “adventures” around Columbus with new people finding different records to buy and listen to that i normally wouldn’t have bought or listened to back home. My cultural perspective has grown so much by listening to the different records. I can understand now why my new friends like the music they do so much and how their background has influenced their music taste. Additionally my new roommate loves vinyls as well. she forgot her recorded player back home though and hast been able to go back and get it but she remembered her vinyls so we share my record player and play her vinyls on it. We have bonded a lot and gotten to know each other very well with the help of my records player.

About Me

I’m Victoria and go by tori or Victoria, it’s whatever people want to call me. My hobbies are playing piano, volunteering, reading, collecting “old” and “vintage” things like records and going on adventures. I like to be outside enjoying nature and feel we should help protect the planet. I also believe we should stick together, stand up for one another and just treat others how we want to be treated. All we want as humans is to be loved so how hard is it to be loving towards one another?

I feel I am creative and learn more in a hands on environment with lots of examples and visuals. I will remember better if i can do an activity or relate it to something, especially something or someone in my life. Sometimes though I need extra help and will require things like reading to support what I’m trying to learn or remember
