Zetas: an Extraterrestrial Species Guiding Humankind

In 1995, a woman by the name of Nancy Lieder claimed to have had contact with extraterrestrial beings known as Zetas. She was visited by one of her “hybrid sons” and was being prepared for a role as a messenger for the Zetas (Zeta Talk). Nancy eventually quit her full time job in California and moved to Wisconsin to pursue her new appointed position as messenger for the Zetas (Zeta Talk). Official information from the Zetas can be found online at Zeta Talk. Since 1995, the Zetas have been revealing to Nancy plans they have for the human race as well as predictions of future events and catastrophes. In the early 2000s, Nancy made a wrong prediction of an event occurring and lost a large number of followers, yet a close knit following still remains. The belief is extraordinary because the only evidence is word of mouth.

Nancy Lieder is the only contact with the Zetas. She proclaims many elaborate facts of realities not yet known to mankind and is quite thorough in their descriptions. So far, Nancy has been unable to accurately make predictions of future events stating that the Zetas can be wrong sometimes (Zeta Talk). Nancy also does not have any physical evidence of the existence of Zetas, but in a video she posted on YouTube, she describes a scene she experienced with a Zeta in such great detail that it would be surprising if it were not real. But, again, the impressive detail and other anecdotal visions is the only evidence of Zeta existence.

In the eyes of those invested in the belief, Nancy Lieder has asserted herself in a position of high credibility and authority through the telling’s complex rules to live by, predictions of catastrophes, and enlightened happenings of the “aftertime” where alien-kind and humankind openly walk amongst each other. Nancy, as the contact, uses modern events like global warming as verification of the Zeta’s predictions, which her followers believe. Those who are devout in their belief are misinterpreting real evidence of earthly phenomena as doings of the Zetas.

There is a consistent community of Zeta believers on social media, and those that participate in the community are actively adopting this belief more and more into their self concepts. In other words, the belief is taking up residents in their personal identity, which means that being a part of the group who is becoming who they are. When multiple people commune with each other in this way, a bond is formed amongst the group and it becomes larger than they are as individuals.

One of the most prominent aspects of Nancy’s messages is the “aftertime” and what life after death will look like. According to Terror Management Theory, people will pursue meaningful experiences as well as beliefs that buffer against the fear of the inevitability of death. Since Zeta’s messages expand into description of life after death, many people find refuge in the belief that people will one day live amongst aliens.

  1. I had never heard of this theory before, but it is fascinating. Did people believe in the Zeta’s before Nancy, or did Nancy just create this conspiracy theory one day and decide to move Wisconsin? While reading these it is just so hard to believe that people would hear Nancy’s crazy tales and then go on to believe them! What is your favorite prediction that Nancy has made?

  2. I am wondering how she went about gaining such a massive following, especially at a time when the internet was not as prominent as it is today. What convinced these people to follow her and what prediction did Nancy “misinterpret” that lead to the loss of some of these followers? I wonder how long this conspiracy lasted and when it died down as well. It is amazing that one person was behind the creation of this theory and the following it gained.

  3. Hello!
This was a very interesting topic to chose for your blog post! I have never heard of The Zetas before so I was intrigued! After reading your blog post I thought maybe Nancy is confusing her communication with the Zetas as psychic abilities. There are numerous people who claim to be physic and talk to people from the dead or see things. That in its self is another extraordinary belief but has many more people who can relate to Nancy if so. I do though find it interesting that Nancy can predict things as though the Zetas are the ones creating earths events to happen. Im surprised this following has not turned into more so of a religion since Nancy speaks of “aftertime” where aliens and humans come together. Maybe it will one day develop into one? Overall, very interesting and informative blog post!!

  4. Great blog post! I wanted to know more about the whole ‘aftertime’ theory, so I did some googling, and apparently it points to a complete government collapse and some emergence of a ZetaTalks radio broadcast? The theory also calls upon “magnetic pulses”, “elite enclaves” and “hybrid colonies”…. I’m just going to leave the link for everyone to peruse and enjoy: http://www.zetatalk.com/xtime/x00.htm

  5. Hello!
I really like your post. I think Zetas should be the most famous Alien witness event. Although Nancy cannot prove any evidence, her detailed experience makes a lot of people believe her. But it is ridiculous that after Nancy’s wrong predictions, there are still a big amount of people follow her. For this point, I think the only reason is they believe they can have space in the “aftertime” through connecting with the Alien. Thanks. Your blog let me know many interesting things.

  6. This was really interesting. I have heard of the Zetas before, but never really knew much about the idea. I’m curious as to how she came up with that name for her alien race. Did any of your research say how she came up with it?

  7. This is very similar to when we learned about alien abductions. However, Nancy went on a whole other level to even give them names instead of just aliens. Just analyzing Nancy, it seems she just wanted a position of power to feel important like you mention. However, to others it was more of having someone physical (so not spiritual or faith based like religion) to bring them a sense of peace on what the afterlife looks like. I wonder if Nancy came to this idea through hypnosis and thats why her claims have so many details. I was also very curious on how Nancy communicated with the Zetas. Does she claim to have psychic powers? if she has them, why won’t she use them on humans? Overall, its interesting to read about an extraordinary belief that one person rules over rather than everyone being a community.

  8. I have never heard of this belief but it is quite interesting, sounds like a case of increased conviction. Despite inaccurate predictions and irrefutable real-world evidence, her dedication to the belief, such as having gained a following and moving states, likely increased her belief far past the ability to retreat.

  9. I hadn’t heard of this particular “Alien Contact” conspiracy regarding the Zetas before, so thank you for sharing! One thing that I really wonder, though, is if aliens were going to contact humans, why – of all the places in the world – would they choose Wisconsin? Like, can they not talk to her in California? I always find these small details about conspiracies interesting because they just seem so random!

  10. How does one person gain such a great amount of followers, by only giving word of mouth evidence. That is almost as extraordinary as her belief. Did you find any information backing up how she may have come up with this belief? Maybe she has schizophrenia? Or suffers from sleep paralysis? Or maybe she just seeks a lot of attention like Mark Sargent.

  11. I find it interesting how after reading so many of these blog posts I am starting to make connections between each of them, even when they are wildly different. Nancy reminds me a lot of Mark Sargent in the way she has people following her and every word she says, even when it is so blatantly wrong. We seem to come back to that idea of identity and how strongly it can influence someone to continue to believe in something even after evidence of what is actually true, and we can definitely see it here again with the current Zeta followers. I would absolutely LOVE to see studies done on people like Nancy to see if they are “wired differently” than the average population (i.e is there a neurological explanation for why these people seem to believe such crazy stories).

  12. Before I read this post, I’ve never heard the Zeta before. But it really sounds like other conspiracies, all telling there’s some kind of organization or group control everything ever happened in history. And the mysterious and powerful groups are always be portrayed as chaotic and evil, deprive the truth and freedom from man kind. I think all these conspiracy theories take the advantages of some logical fallacies, just like post hoc fallacy, to make their whole theory more convincible so that they could attract some people who are interested.

  13. Never heard Zeta before, but this one is typical that describes a mysterious or powerful group controls our world. Actually if it is true, could we even be aware of it?

  14. If NASA has found no planet such as Nibiru, then some type of precaution or warning would be sent. When there is no scientific evidence in any form of “Zetas,” people continue to have beliefs so that the theory of aliens never dies. Lieder makes herself seem as though used as a form of Jesus that the aliens sent. This theory is almost in line with the 2012 conspiracy theory that the world was going to end.
