Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: I am planning to major in international business and finance. I’m also aiming toward a minor in Italian. I really wanted to do international business and Italian because I wanted to get a deeper understanding of the Italian culture and become fluent in the language. I plan to study abroad (in Italy) and work overseas after graduation.

Academic Enrichment: The transition from high school to college is hard, but not impossible. I learned that time management is a huge factor in having academic success. I had skipped hanging out with friends, football games, etc. to study and do homework so my grades will not suffer. I didn’t know what to expect with exams and homework assignments, and it was an adjustment. But as the year has gone on, I have seen myself improving on these exams and my grades getting better and better as a result of managing my time and knowing my priorities.

Leadership Development: Since the start of school, I have been recommended to be an RA my sophomore year and am now upholding a leadership position in ACES.

Service Engagement: Being in ACES, it is a requirement to do community service. However, I find joy in helping others and bettering the community. Because of this, I accepted the position as a service co-chair in the scholars program to help coordinate service events for ACES, hoping to get more people involved with the community.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.   For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. image1I was raised a Buckeye since the day I was born. My dad, aunts, uncles, cousins, and family friends went to school here. I felt the need to follow in their footsteps and become a Buckeye myself. This picture was taken my senior year of high school, before the Ohio State vs. UC game. Being from Cincinnati, it was a pretty big game for me to go to. I had been to games before, including the Virginia Tech game that year. But, none of those games compared to this one. I had never felt so at home. I knew from this moment I absolutely had to be a Buckeye.

image1 (1)Throughout high school, it was hard to get involved in different school organizations. It was even harder to be a “leader”. I have always been a pretty outgoing person- I’ve never been afraid to communicate with others. But, I thought that would become harder when I came to college. I was coming to a new city and a school where I only knew a handful of people. Right off the bat, I was able to make friends and get involved with school and the community. When I received this in the mail, I felt so good about myself. I knew my effort to meet new people, include everyone, and be a role model/leader was being recognized when it never had been before. It made me realize how different college was going to be and how it was going to be such a better experience.

image1 (2)When I was accepted into the Honors & Scholars Program, I was beyond proud of myself. I had always been an honors student and always gotten myself involved in community service. Senior year, I struggled more than I ever had in school. I was taking 3 of the hardest AP classes and was completely overwhelmed. I was so scared I wasn’t going to graduate with a 4.0 and even more scared that I wouldn’t get into the college of my dreams. It pushed me to keep working as hard as I could. It paid off. Honors & Scholars made me feel like all the hard work I had put into school and bettering the community was being recognized and I knew I would be able to continue it throughout my college years.

About Me

unnamed

I am a first year student from Cincinnati, Ohio studying business. My goal is to double major with international business and either marketing or finance with a minor in Italian. I took classes in high school with the intention to be in the health and sciences program in college – which is what I officially was accepted into when I applied. Later into my senior year, I realized I had a love for not only medicine, but business and changed my major. Heading into my first year in college, I know it will be a transition and I will need to focus hard on my academics, but with a passion for the subject, I feel I can succeed with no problems. I am a hard-worker and very motivated individual and will use my resources and time wisely to make this year go by smoothly.
