Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

One goal I have for myself is to participate in at least one study abroad trip before I graduate college. I believe doing this will help me gain a better understanding for life outside of America. It would help me realize how privileged I am to live in America and have more compassion of some of the less well off areas of the world. Also, I could see myself someday wanting to do engineering work in other less privileged countries so a study abroad trip would help me decide if that could be a potential path I take.

One of the main reasons I came to Ohio State is because of the great research programs they have. Though I am unsure of exactly what type of research I would like to join, I know I would forever regret it if I never got involved. For now I am just keeping my eyes open for any opportunities I may see that seem interesting, but if  I have not found anything by my sophomore year I plan to do more active searching. My goal is to participate in at least one research program before my junior year comes around.

Finally, something that has always been important to me is serving the community. Many people have done things throughout my life to help me succeed and give me the opportunity to be the person I am today. I hope I will be able to do the same and serve those in my community. One of my goals throughout college and after is to find  programs I am passionate about that serves those around me. It is a requirement to have 8 hours of community service per semester for Green Engineering Scholars, but I plan to commit to a couple hours of service a week throughout my entire life.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. Artifacts

In Engineering 1181.02 class we have recently been learning how to use MATLAB. I have really enjoyed doing this for multiple reasons. In general I am fascinated by the concepts of coding though I never really had learned how to do it. It is cool to be learning the basic concepts of MATLAB and I am really excited to create a video game using what we have learned in the class. Also, I think that no matter what major I end up going into, MATLAB will be vary helpful. I have been debating staying in Aerospace or trying a different branch of engineering, possible Computer and Science Engineering. It is helping me realize how interested I am in coding and how I want to at least get a minor in CSE. Regardless of whether I switch to a different major or stay in the same I believe the concepts I am learning in MATLAB will be helpful in whatever I do. We are still in the beginning stages of MATLAB and I can’t wait to continue to learn more.

About Me

I am from Huron, Ohio and graduated high school in 2018 from Huron High School. I am attending The Ohio State University and am planning on majoring in Aerospace Engineering. I love math and science classes and enjoy trying to find unique ways to solve situations. I don’t know exactly what I want to do when I graduate, but I think it would be awesome and hope I can someday work for NASA and be a part of advancing human travel!

I love sports of all kinds. In high school I played basketball, football, cross country, as well as ran track and field. I am a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan and usually go to a game each year. I also root for the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Cavaliers. I had a hedgehog as a pet for 4 years named Sir Jeffery Pricklesven (I didn’t name him, my brother did). I am very involved in YoungLife and hope to lead at a high school near Ohio State’s campus. I worked at Cedar point, a huge amusement park about 10 minutes away from my house, over the summers. I also have worked at my local Dairy Queen and have helped out at my grandpa’s farm since I was a young boy.
