About Me

Hi my name is Joanna Valentas. I am a fourth year student at The Ohio State University. I am studying Aerospace Engineering. Here at OSU I am the Vice President of 1st and 2nd year support of the Engineering Scholars program, as well as a member of the payload team for NASA Buckeye Space Launch Initiative. Our team’s goal is to create a “moon” rover that will deploy from our rocket and collect a soil sample of 10mL. Through BSLI, I earned my Level 1 HPR Certification. I am also a head swim instructor for Bluefish Swim School at The Ohio State University, where we teach swim lessons to children with disabilities. I have interned at Corna Kokosing Construction Company in Columbus, OH and at AK Steel in Butter, PA gaining professional engineering experience. I am from Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, where I have a younger brother and sister. I also have a cat, Tiger. I enjoy playing sports; in high school I played basketball, volleyball, and softball. Other activities that I partake in at Ohio State include the Society of Women in Engineering along with the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
