Module 5 Blog

For Students:

The most useful thing I learned in Module 5 is how to effectively transfer what I think is important from a speaker to my own notes.

One specific thing I have learned from this module that I have put into practice is the skeleton key/highlighting note taking method. I used to only use bullet points to write my notes but after reading the module, I realized I understand my notes better if I use some of the skeleton key note taking method by making main ideas and making smaller ideas from those main ideas. I also like to highlight my notes now because it allows the important information to pop out of the paper that you otherwise would miss. So it worked out pretty well.

An idea from this module I will put into practice in the future is listening to podcasts. I found out this information from the reading. On slide 11 on “Lesson: Module 5” it states I should listen to a podcast to “pursue interests or learn something new”. I will put this idea into practice perhaps by listening to a podcast about once a weekend. Then if I enjoy them or I find a interesting podcast topic I can listen to it more frequently.

Students should take away some important things from this module. I recommend students go on the note taking strategies website by the University of New England and find a note taking strategy that works for them.
