The overarching framework for the pillar has been defined as working to advance an environment to support all Ohio State instructors in their pursuit of lifelong learning in teaching. This support acknowledges the progression from first competence, to effectiveness, to excellence in their teaching practice. The following mission, vision, and values for the pillar have been affirmed:
To promote and support the culture of teaching excellence at The Ohio State University.
To inspire and assist members of the Ohio State Community, at all levels, in their pursuit of teaching and learning achievement.
- Community – We value the viewpoint and expertise of instructors at all levels, and acknowledge that we gain much in learning about and from each other;
- Opportunity and Resources – We rely on expertise from many departments, units, and individuals across the University. This pillar serves as the open “front door” to engagement with these partners;
- Recognition – World-class teaching and learning innovation, and knowledge creation and transfer are core responsibilities of our University members. This work must be acknowledged and rewarded;
- Support – The framework for teaching excellence at Ohio State is intended to maximize our impact in teaching and learning in the context of University priorities and goals, and should be clear, efficient, and achievable.
