Project Statement

The 2D to 3D translation from a previously discovered shape, points toward one central location in which it then repeats to join forms together to find a new structure considering how this form already exists in space. My goal for the 2D form was to make something that looked really bland in the front but once it is turned around, it’s all of a sudden something interesting and cool to look at. In design, I’ve started to fall in love with the simplistic and modern designs that seem so basic but also extremely well thought out and smart in how they were created. Almost referencing the quote “Never judge a book by its cover,” design is just like that. Something may look one way but function in a completely different yet better way instead and that’s the beauty of what design is and does! I wanted to use the points of the 2D structures to make a statement of their own without depending on anything else to do that for them.

Reflection

I actually really enjoyed the process of this project. I was able to start and end this project all based on my own ideas and perspective and I surprised myself with abilities that I had no idea I have. Although, this was probably one of the most stressful projects I’ve done so far, I’m happy with the design that I came up with and produced. I found that my crafting skills are not the brightest but I am also aware that it will get better with the more practice I get. I am happy with my efforts in this project and looking back now I see how I used what I learned from the previous project to help guide myself through this project. I pushed and stretched myself more than I ever have before and it ultimately made me feel more confident in the work I was doing. These forms bring a lot of simplicity and satisfaction to myself and I hope that conveys to the viewers as well!
