Skiing

An artifact that accurately describes my first semester of college is skiing. Before coming to college the foreign concept of skiing would have never occurred to me as something to do. Although I spent most of my day on the slopes falling I learned some important lessons. Firstly, it’s okay to fail in the process of learning. My first time down the hill I couldn’t figure out how to control my skis and eventually tumbled to the bottom. If it wasn’t for that mistake however, I wouldn’t have had to muster the courage to try and try again. Another key component of skiing was the importance of having great friends and mentors to have your back. If it wasn’t for the selflessness of my friends that day I would never have known the significance of not crossing your skis or have been able to pick myself back up on the slopes and continue down the mountain. By the end of the day I was able to glide through the flags on the slope and most importantly, strengthened friendships of a lifetime.
