Columbus To Do List #2

I attended a free community yoga class at Core Power Yoga in Short North on Sunday 11/11. I rode a COTA bus to and from the class, which was very easy and convenient. The class itself was very fun and rewarding. It was a beginners level power vinyasa yoga class that is free every Sunday at 1pm. I have been to about 50 yoga classes at Core Power studios before, but this class was really amazing for some reason. Maybe it was because I haven’t done yoga in a while, or because I was able to escape away from campus. However, regardless of the reason, I felt so joyful and stress free afterwards and I definitely plan on attending more of those free classes.

Overall, this was a great experience and I feel so much more comfortable riding the bus off campus in a timely fashion. Next time I go, however, I will plan to spend more time in the short north district to have lunch afterwards.

Rowing Team

Coming to college I knew I wanted to join some sort of sports team/club as I have always been into sports/working out. Many of my CrossFit friends recommended rowing because of the similarities with CrossFit, so I tried out for the rowing team. I am now on the NCAA novice rowing team and I absolutely love it! I have met my closest friends, made so many amazing memories, and done workouts that I didn’t think were physically nor mentally possible. Because of the time commitment, I am forced to be productive and efficient with my time which has definitly helped me to balance school, working out, friends and fun.

I love waking up to get a solid workout with my best friends and watch the beautiful sunrise!

Our first D1 collegiate race was so fun!

Olentangy River Trail :

 September 14th

 October 11th

I discovered the Olentangy River in September when I was looking for a running trail. Since then, I have ran about a dozen times on it, and its beauty never fails to impress me. While I have never ran the full 14 miles, I’ve done about 6 of the miles and I certainly aim to go the full trail (either on bike or on foot) at some point. Some of the best runs are when the trails are empty and the sun is setting because the glimmer of the sun against the trees and water is breathtaking. Coming from Colorado where nature surrounds everything, adjusting to the city has been a process, but the Olentangy River gives me a perfect escape. One day before the cold winter hits, I want to to bring my hammock and hang it in a tucked away tree by the river. S

Overall, I would recommend the Olentangy River Trail to anyone who is looking for a peaceful spot to hammock, do homework, bike, walk, run, scooter, and anything else that your heart desires.

CrossFit

Crossfit played a large role in developing my physical and mental capacity. I first joined the CrossFit gym during my senior year of high school and it provided me with an outlet to relieve school and home stress. Not only that, but I met some of my best friends and really branched out of my social comfort zone. I love both the mental and physical challenges that come with every workout. I learned to push myself and, equally as important, how to hold back and take it easy. For me, there is no better feeling than knowing you gave 100% effort, so CrossFit gave me the perfect opportunity to meet people with this common trait while doing what I love.

About Me

My name is Julia Troni and I am from Littleton, Colorado. I am majoring in Electrical Engineering and minoring in Spanish. I am on the OSU novice rowing team and am apart of Humanitarian Engineering Scholars. I am hoping to participate in a service project abroad over the summer or study abroad at some point.

I have three younger siblings and a crazy boarder collie mix. In my free time I enjoy CrossFit, hiking, anything outside, and spending time with my family. Also, I work at Starbucks but I don’t drink coffee.

My top 5 strengths include

  1. Restorative
  2. Achiever
  3. Developer
  4. Empathy
  5. Competition

First, I identify as a restorer or a “fixer” as I call it, so I love to solve any kind of problems. It is exhilarating to look back and see that I personally improved something.

As an achiever, I consider myself very dedicated and driven. I prefer to be busy and productive than “chilling” or relaxing. I feel a great deal of satisfaction knowing that what I do today will improve some aspect of my life in either my short or long term future.

Also, I am a developer, which means that I acknowledge others strengths, and I enjoy helping them overcome weaknesses. This goes hand in hand with my achieving and restorative nature, because I am driven to constantly improve things, including other’s weaknesses. And, I love the feeling of helping others.

Next, I am empathic so I can easily put myself in others shoes and sense what they are going through. I would say I am particularly good at understanding others past and present feelings, and this helps me get closer to people.

Lastly, I would be the first one to say that I am ultra competitive. I am consistently comparing myself to others, trying to be better at them with everything. Whether it be sports or school, I am continually seeking to get better and better, so competing against myself or others gives me a benchmark to measure my progress.
