As an OSU Honors student, my biggest driving force is the ability to follow my G.O.A.L.S. There is no doubt that following this guide that has been outlined for me will better prepare myself for the world ahead of me.
And so, in an effort to practice my Global Awareness, my biggest aim is to take courses concerning the different cultures of the world and each society’s patterns, whether that be characteristically or in a business sense. Not only that, but I plan on studying abroad, in hopes that my awareness and appreciation for those that are different from me increases in great lengths.
What makes Honors students different from the rest is their creativity and drive for research. With this, I hope to fulfill my ‘Original Inquiry’ possibly through participation in clubs that would appropriately practice the creative side of myself. If I could possibly produce something for the entire campus to see, a magazine article, a blog, etc, then I will be able to fulfill my sense of creativity.
Not only is fulfilling my creativity a certain goal of mine for college, my curricular is the whole reason I am here at The Ohio State University. Through Academic Enrichment, I have set in place a course plan that I feel would best accommodate my aspirations for the future. With the goal of majoring in Strategic Communications, I hope that helps me expand my ability to talk about the conversations that really matter, and the ones that could actually impact the world. With a major in Anthropology, I hope my awareness of the wide variety of cultures around me strengthens my ability to understand our world and the patterns of our people, both good and bad. Though my choices in course work may seem confusing to one, I aim to learn the things that truly interest me. Even if it may not necessarily be required for my major, I believe that being able to learn something you otherwise wouldn’t have because it was not required is something that permits a drive for excellence.
Another big goal of mine coming into college was to greatly increase and better my Leadership Development in an effort to prepare myself for the real world, with matters that could actually impact society. With an older sister who acted became such a great role model, I’ve wanted to follow in her steps of leadership ever since she graduated OSU. And so, through the extracurriculars I’ve chosen for my first year, I truly hope that that fosters my ability to lead others and to guide them towards the right direction. Through Buckeyethon, R-LEAD, The PRactice, and my involvement in the work community, I believe that I am already on my way to preparing myself for the big roles ahead. With all of these resources available to me, I truly hope my leadership will become one of complete teamwork and communication, and not one of one leader and many followers.
When we speak of teamwork, it is important to keep in mind what that really means. It is communication, cooperation, and a collective effort to do something good together. One thing that teamwork really comes into play in is Service Engagement. Without a drive of a collective to make the world a better place, what would the world look like today? It is that exact question that drives me to want to do good for the community. To help others is a level separate from that of academic enrichment, it is one of intellectual enrichment and well-being. For this reason, I do hope to participate in more service activities and organizations, whether that be with Buckeyethon, Pay-It-Forward, or another group that I have yet to hear of, I hope to do well.
With the completion of my time here at OSU, I hope and believe that in an effort to achieve our G.O.A.L.S, not only will we be well equipped for the world ahead, but we will be striving to face it.
