After a sun, and fun filled day at Maracas beach. We headed back to the charming bed & breakfast, for a Trini Christmas dinner. And to get ready to head back to the US where it was not 85 and sunny everyday. Some new travelers were not ready to go through security in Trinidad and in the US. The process in the US is so much smoother and convenient which made it okay after a 5 and a half hour flight back to Newark, New Jersey. After a slight delay in Newark we were finally on the plane and on our way back to Columbus.
Reflecting on my trip during the flights was great. I reflected all the way back to the first day, drinking out of a coconut and seeing all of the crops we don’t get to grow in Ohio like avocados, bananas, and citrus. I also remember the bright red glow of the majestic Scarlet Ibis in Caroni swamp. Some people only dream of seeing that bird throughout their life. I also reflected on all the amazing views in Trinidad from Fort George and the Abbey. The views were breathtaking and some I will never forget. Reflecting back from my assumptions from the beginning of the week the farms that we visited were very well maintained and clean and all of the animals were very healthy. The farms were comparable to farms in the US maybe not the same technology but they did the most with what they had. Trinidad was a very memorable trip and changed many of my views from the beginning of the week to the end of the week.

From seeing the amazing views to visiting the various farms to celebrating Christmas at the church, it’s safe to say that we have experienced a lot. As our trip comes to end, we had a lot of time to reflect on the happenings of our first study abroad through Ohio State. While, I must admit the flights were long and the 4-hour layover was just a nap break, the trip was an all-around success. My favorite part had to be the celebration at the church. Our time there started with building a grow box and planting a small garden in it. We then got to talk to students from Trinidad, eat pizza, give gifts to the children, and watch a stilt walking show that they put on for us. It was such a great way to be immersed in the culture and learn as much as we can. All-in-all, this was a trip that will forever stay in my memories. It helped me grow in ways a classroom can’t, and I am beyond thankful for that.
