Module 7

The most useful topic I learned from this module was using progress as a motivator. A lot of times I am thinking ahead of all the things I still have to do and forget what I have already accomplished. I need to do a better job on accepting what I have achieved and use that to motivate myself to keep pushing and do better. Something I have already put into place from the module is taking breaks. I started doing this probably after my first semester of college. I was mentally worn out from studies and sports. I had to find a balance between the two and I was pushing myself so hard on the school side that I would burn myself out. I then learned to take breaks with my school work and break it up into parts.
One thing I look to use in the future is maybe setting appointments with a psychologist to talk about things because I have noticed when I am not in a good mental state I am not doing the best inside the class room.
My advice to students would be make sure you take care of your mental and emotional states because everything is intertwined and works together. So if one thing is off it will mess others up in your life such as school or something else.

Module 6

The most useful thing I got from this module was in the video with Nancy Whoo, when she spoke of mindset for starting a paper. I found this very useful because most of the time I don’t really think in advance of starting my paper I would just start it. So with having the correct mindset before hand, it can help me write better and smarter. One thing I have already put into practice from this module is making sure my sources are credible. I have always been really careful about this when writing papers making sure everything I research is a reliable source. Many websites have a out of information but are not always credible so you have to be sure to get right info. From the module something I am going to practice in the future is creating better outlines. Most of the time my outlines are short and not too much information in them. I need to do a better job creating better outline for my paper.
My advice to students would be always make sure your sources are credible and up to date. And also your how much much effort you put into your outline can go a long way to better your paper.

Module 5

The most useful thing I found from the module was understanding the structure of the lecture. I never thought of looking at a lecture like analyzing an essay. Reflecting back on previous lectures I’ve heard before it is very true. Breaking down a lecture just I would an essay will be very helpful next time to take notes. Things from this module I have already put into place is having a note structure, I like to number my notes in order as the lecture goes and then after label them most important to least. This helps me break down want I really need to know and focus on it. Something I can use in the future is breaking down the lecture and also reviewing my notes more. After I leave a lecture I usually only review my notes once or twice, I need to go back through and revise my notes more to make sure I didn’t miss anything important.
Advice I would give to students is, that if you know you have a big lecture coming up try to break it down before you go into this will make it easier on you and you will know what to expect when the time comes.

Module 4

From this module the most useful thing I learned was understanding multitasking. I usually multitask a lot when I work whether watching tv or listening to music while I do homework or study. This sometimes leads to me getting distracted and not finishing my work on time. Something from the module I have already put into place is active reading. When I read something that is long or very important I take careful notes and go over it about 3 to 5 times to make sure I got it down. Things I am taking from this module to utilize is trying to limit multitasking and focusing on one thing at a time to put all my attention on one task.
Advice I would give to students is try not to take on everything at once and focus on one thing. Also if you do not like reading try breaking it up into sections and try to make it interesting as possible by searching the topic for interesting facts. The Utah. State article was very cool and recommend reading it. https://www.usu.edu/asp/studysmart/pdf/pre_reading_strats.pdf

Module 3

The biggest thing I learned during this module was breaking down large tasks. In the past I tended to try and always just complete a large assignment all at once. I was just making it harder for my self because then I would get distracted or tired from working too long. From the module by breaking an assignment down you lessen the time each day instead of trying to do it in one.
One thing I have been doing from this module is creating a calendar of when all my assignments are due for each month. I print it out and hang it up in my room. I have found this very intuitive, because I check it every day and then once I finish I cross it off my calendar. Making a calendar is a very useful tool, the biggest reason being, you know what you need to get done for each week.

From mind tools website I learned some valuable things that I can put into use. The biggest one being working why you are procrastinating. My caches always talk about accountability and addressing the issue upfront. This part of the article really resonated with me. Knowing what the problem is and how to solve it.
I would recommend to students that try making a calendar it will benefit you a lot and get you more organized on work. Also another point try and break down larger tasks over and extended period of time instead of cramming it all in one day, because that will lead to procrastination and no one wants that.

Module 2

The biggest thing I got from the module was blogging. Getting educated on blogs,  y seeing others new perspectives and views on subjects. Seeing other expressing their ideas and views on subjects to help better your own understanding. I think I can use this to help me with finding strategies that could benefit me. The subject I have already put into practice was emailing Professors. From the video I already do many of those things. I make to always properly address my professor, and get straight to the point with what I need to ask them. I also always make sure to read their emails very carefully as well to make sure I do not miss anything. I think reading and getting more into blogging is something I will do more of in the future to obtain more understanding and other viewpoints on topics going forward. Advice I would give to students is about group communication. Communication is vital in whatever you do, so in group I found it best to make sure you communicate well and often to make sure there is no confusion or mix ups in your work. Then also emailing professors, making the correct impression can go a long way and building a good relationship with them.
