Blog post 4 – Project 2

What is a boundary? This was the question presented to my class as we began the project Activated Boundaries. Hard question to answer considering every mind is different and all past experiences play a role in problem solving. My first thought was, walls, fences, oceans, everything tangible and force bearing. I chose to keep pondering and expanding on my ideas. How does this question play a role in my life currently? I began to think mental blocks and my lack of experience as my boundary. This, I could run with. One of my life goals is to live in Barcelona, Spain and add more of a holistic approach to my life. When I tell everyone of my near future move to Europe the first question I am asked is, “Do you know Spanish?” My answer? “Not yet.” For a few months I have been dedicating a lot of my focus to understanding, speaking and writing Spanish and because of this, I chose my boundary to be language barriers. I want to bring to light the lack of communication, and in turn opportunities we miss when communication is such a challenge to obtain with others around the world.

I want to create an installation piece that the viewer can interact with and use their own problem solving skills to fully understand the artistic message I am sending. I want to get a large cardboard box that the viewer can walk into and translate the message from Spanish to english or visa vi if the viewer is Spanish speaking. I have been thinking a lot of about the message I want to write on the paper and I want to continue to push my lyricist skills.
