The Council of Graduate Students is the official student government for graduate students at The Ohio State University and works towards a continual improvement of the graduate student experience at The Ohio State University. The mission of the Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility Committee (SERC) is to foster the development of environmentally responsible leadership on the Ohio State Campus through awareness and outreach, partnerships, and engagement with the Ohio State community. The committee aims to partner with entities on campus engaged in sustainability work and connect students with resources that will further Ohio State’s progress in reaching its sustainability goals. We advocate for sustainable practices being incorporated into ongoing academic research, educational programming, student initiatives, on-campus operations, and the built environment.

The Ecological Engineering Society aims to educate ourselves and others about ecological engineering and its potential uses, to develop our potential as ecological engineers through hands-on projects, and to utilize our resources as an OSU-affiliated student club to collaborate with our community for justice-oriented, local projects. Events and projects include rain gardens, professional speakers, community-based science, socials, and more!

The Knowlton Conservation Corps is a student-driven service organization dedicated to the maintenance and revitalization of the Rooftop Garden at the Knowlton School of Architecture. Currently, we are focused on our Propagation Patio Project, which involved constructing planter boxes to hold seedlings that will be transferred to the rooftop garden. In addition, we host regular garden cleanups, sustainable craft nights, and are donating planter boxes to local elementary schools to support the creation of vegetable and pollinator gardens. Our efforts aim to foster sustainability and environmental awareness within the community! All are welcome to join.

Ohio State Undergraduate Student Government’s Sustainability Committee strives to improve our campus’s environmental ethic by educating the student body on sustainability through campus-wide events and initiatives. We aim to enhance students’ understanding of key issues like climate change, waste reduction, and habitat loss while promoting a greener campus. Our subcommittee is driven by both students with extensive environmental backgrounds and those eager to learn how they can make a difference. We welcome all ideas and work together to turn them into action, ensuring that sustainability remains a core part of campus life. Some of our favorite annual events include Sustainable Yoga, The Sustainability Market, and Seeds of Service!

Our goal is to increase accessibility to recycling for OSU students, raise awareness about recycling on campus, and provide students with opportunities to help make OSU a greener place! We host guest speakers in the sustainability and recycling field, have fun eco-friendly craft nights, and volunteer for street cleanups.

Students for Sustainable Fashion focuses on educating students on how to be more environmentally and socially responsible consumers. By understanding the environmental impacts of sustainable and non-sustainable clothing, members will learn how to upcycle, be taught how to resell their clothes, be encouraged to join community-based activities such as clothing swaps, group thrifting trips, and skill-based clinics teaching how to crochet, and sew, and garner a greater understanding of the fashion industry and their place within it.

The Sustainability Institute collaborates with academic and operations units across the university to advance sustainability and resilience scholarship and activities. We aim to establish Ohio State as a leader in sustainability research and applications; educate and empower students; accelerate campus sustainability and living lab opportunities; grow resources to support these efforts; and catalyze a culture of sustainability.
