Elizabeth Crump’s Illustration for William Wordsworth’s ‘I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud’

Elizabeth Crump is studying Microbiology at the Ohio State University and has a strong interest in environmental issues. Her illustration of Wordsworth’s ‘I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud’ shows awareness of ecologies and threats to the environment. The image centers on a small bunch of daffodils in a sandy or desert landscape, and behind them is a large wave that seems to threaten to wash the flowers away. Underneath, the poem is written on a piece of weathered paper, like a remnant of the past. The illustration engages with the history of the poem, reminding us that the wonder of nature might not continue unless we protect our environment from harm.

  1. Very well done and well thought out Elizabeth! Looks like you inherited some of your grandmother Amy’s artistic talent! Thank you all for sending me the email attachment so I could see the work first hand.
