My name is Ann and I’m a freshman at The Ohio State University. I grew up in Mason, Ohio, which is really close to Cincinnati. Back home, in my free time, I rode horses and jumped them competitively. I’ve always known I wanted to go to Ohio State and I’m thrilled to finally be here. My future goal is to go to Medical school (hopefully at Ohio state as well!). Ultimately, I would love to become a pediatrician or a Neonatologist. I first discovered I wanted to do something in the medical field in high school. Courses I took such as Honors Anatomy and Physiology, AP Biology and AP Psychology peaked my interest in this field and I realized that was what I wanted to do with my life. Furthermore, volunteering at my local hospital’s pharmacy and patient services wing further solidified my desires. I am really excited to explore campus and all the opportunities it offers!

In the past year at OSU, I was able to learn so much and grow as a person. I solidified my future career path and explored and ruled out many options. I was able to get involved with communities and clubs I really care about like CRU. As a neuroscience major, I have been able to take interesting classes like cellular and molecular neuroscience which I found to be really fascinating and relevant to my future field. This year allowed me to volunteer my time in many ways that I found to be very rewarding, and I am looking forward to my service project next year. I really enjoyed the community of accepting students at OSU and I can’t wait to return!

Original Inquiry: Honors & Scholars students understand the research process by engaging in experiences ranging from in-class scholarly endeavors to creative inquiry projects to independent experiences with top researchers across campus and in the global community. For example, consider research, creative productions or performances, advanced course work, etc.
Academic Enrichment: For my upperclassman interview, I interviewed an ambassador in the Neuroscience program. I asked her how to get involved with research, mainly. She gave me some good tips on contacting people as well as maintaining relationships with professors and how important that is.She told me that research was pretty important but grades and other activities were important as well, and I have to be well rounded. As a fellow premed, she advised me on certain courses to take and which ones to avoid.
Service Engagement: To complete my 20 hours of service this year I did a variety of activities. I attended a Medlife event where we made feminine hygiene items for underprivileged women. Also, I helped run Mason’s Walk For Peace by registering people and handing out t-shirts. Most of my service hours came from playing piano at church, on certain Sundays.
