The Project Powerpoint

For my Green Engineering Scholars Seminar, I made a presentation as a part of the Spongebob group about the importance and feasibility of solar roadways. Solar roadways are a new and innovative solution to the energy crisis that still allows for corporate ownership of the energy industry. Solar roads are achieved by paving any and all types of road with removable, and therefore repairable, solar panels. These panels are arranged in a hexagonal honeycomb that has programmable lights and more safety features than the standard road of today.

Team Spongebob decided that we wanted to do more research on Solar Roadways because we found the video the company in the process of creating solar roadways put out and were intrigued. There is a link to the video in the presentation above, it is a very interesting watch, 10/10 would recommend.

Our team realizes that solar roadways are still being researched and are not quite economically feasible for every single road in the United States, as of yet. There still needs to be research on decreasing the hackability of the display and reducing the price of these panels before they can be used everywhere. But this area of research is very promising.

G.O.A.L.S. For My Freshman Year

Academic Enrichment is a big focus for me. By the end of this year and continuing on, I want to keep a 3.5 GPA. Some obstacles that could challenge me along the way are that fact that coursework in college is much more difficult that high school coursework and I need to adjust to that. Also transition periods, like moving away to college, are traditionally difficult for an adjustment period. Luckily, I have two siblings on campus to keep a sense of home away from home and there are so many resources to go to on campus that help with coursework and teaching.

Leadership is also a passion of mine. I am a member of TBDBITL and I want to continue that membership so I can eventually be a leader to new members, like my fellow X Row members are leaders to me this year. Other than the fact that marching band takes a lot of time and commitment, I see no overwhelming obstacles to this goal. Everyone in band is geared toward keeping everyone else in band. It is a great community and I want to keep being a part of it.

Career

As a freshman, I do not have engineering career experience. However, I am fluent in Javascript, HTML, CSS, MatLab, and will be taking a C++ class in the spring. I am also familiar with analog breadboarding and am excited to learn more in the next few years. I am currently looking for an electrical engineering internship or co-op in the central Ohio area.
