Service Spring Semester 2019

I volunteered for Dunn Triathlon. It took place on March 2nd, 2019. I took athlete’s time in the swimming portion of the triathlon. I worked from 7- 11 am.

I also volunteered for the Hunger 5k Run and Walk. It took place on March 24, 2019 and went from 7:30 to 12. I helped participants find parking and cheered them on as they passed by. As I volunteer, I also was helping hand out water and flyers as they finished.

Lastly, I also volunteered for the 2019 CCS National Championships. I was a time keeper for competing swimmers. It was my first time timing for a swim meet. My contribution lasted from 10:30 to 12:30.

DSWS Track Group

My track group meeting was on Tuesday, December 4th. We talked about resumes, how to network, and goals for ourselves. It lasted thirty minutes. I met with my track group leaders in, one of their names was Emily Callicotte. I am in the business track group. My biggest take away was to do well on easy classes because it’s very hard to raise your GPA.

DSWS Service Hours

On August 25 from 8-12, I got 4 service hours with Ohio State’s Community Commitment. I helped lead a group of students go to the goodwill. We sorted clothes and straightened books.

On October 5th, from 5:30-7:30, I was a parade oace keeper for the parade. We walked along the parade keeping the separate floats in time.

On October 26th, I volunteered with USG to plant trees from 10-1:00. We planted trees at the Faucet Center.

On November 17th, I did the DSWS day of service. My group went to the furniture bank. We organized mattresses and furniture. It was from 12-5:00 pm.

True Colors Reflection

My True Color was orange. To be an orange means you are opportunistic, positive, impactful, realistic, adventurous, courageous, skillful, and open-minded. I believe that the descriptions of orange do describe my personality. I always try my best to take advantage of great opportunities I face, and positivity is one of the many things I have always strived to have as well.  Adventure, skill, and impactfulness are three things I also want to incorporate into my life.

Because I am an orange, I would be able to bring my special characteristics to a group or team setting. When there are struggles within a group, I would be able to keep everyone thinking on the positive side. I would try my hardest to find the best alternative or idea that we could use if we are having a hard time keeping our plan together. For example, when I played volleyball in high school, I always urged everyone to try to keep their head up and work their hardest even if we were losing badly.

In a work setting in the future, I would be able to show a company ways to take advantage of an opportunity to make an impact in a realistic way. In my scholars group, I am able to help others and keep them positive when they have a bad day and do badly on an exam.

Definition of Leadership

Leadership

My definition of leadership is being the bigger person and  showing those around you what really matters. It is not getting caught up in drama but showing others how to resolve their problems. It is listening and understanding. It is not judging based on other people’s ideas. Leadership means that you are being the best you can be for the sake of other people.

Reflection

During a volleyball match, I saw that a team was not doing very well. They were not working together. One co-captain of the team was getting angry and frustrated with the other players. Suddenly, she was demanding her teammates to do better with a negative attitude. The other team’s co-captain, however, kept a positive attitude and encouraged the other team members. “We can do this” is one of the things I remember the positive captain saying. The positive captain started to take control of the game by working harder. She kept what really mattered in view. Even though they lost the sporting match, she did not sulk. Instead, she just encouraged herself and others to do better next time.

This situation brings out two examples: How not to be a leader and how to be a leader. The positive captain on the team showed leadership because she was not blaming her team. She believed in them. She encouraged them to do their best with a positive attitude when she could have just given up all together. Her positive attitude in times of distress showed that she could be the bigger person, which is what I believe to be a key aspect of leadership.

About Me

My name is Bonnie Thibault and I am a first year at The Ohio State Univeristy as of Fall 2018. I a marketing major hoping to specialize in the art industry to fulfill my love of art and my creative side.

When I first applied to Ohio State, I had the option to join honors or scholars. I decided to be a part of scholars because the programs offered seemed like they gave a better way to meet new people and have great academic and social experience at the same time. Due to my love of sports and being active, I wanted to be a part of The Dunn Sport and Wellness program. After I was accepted, I was very excited and could not wait to see where it would take me. Upon Welcome Week, I was greeted with high energy and was able to meet some talented and unique people. I now live in Morrill Tower along with nine other girls in my suite.

I played both volleyball and tennis throughout my four years in high school, and hope to continue with them by playing intramural sports at Ohio State. As I mentioned before, I am also very fascinated by art and love creating my own artwork. Some of my art accomplishments have been painting a mural in high school and starting my own small business where I paint (most commonly landscapes) on t-shirts. I started in mid August calling it “Painted Adventures”, and it has been a success so far. I also have a love for photography. Friends, sunsets, and random moments are my three favorite things to photograph. My other hobbies include eating, working out, finding unique music to listen to, searching for the most best coffee shops, exploring with my friends, and writing in my journal. I also hope to explore downtown Columbus throughout my time at Ohio State. I couldn’t be more excited for the football season to begin. The first game will be the first Ohio State football game I will have ever been to. Let the games begin!
